Obviously Cam Bancroft WILL get selected in the squad now. Has to.... but what do we take out from this match seeing it was played on a wicket unlike anything that will be played on this series? Still being a right hander will be a big advantage for Cam so I am rejigging my team to get him in. Also think Wade didn't do what needed to be done to get a gig, and think it boils down to Marsh or Labuschange batting six, depending on what the selectors see they require as back up for the 4 main bowlers. I hate to admit but maybe Marsh gets another look in? Its now or never for the big unit.
Pattinson has to play. After Cummins he is our second best bowler on form with Hazelwood, Starc and Lyon not showing a lot in the lead up the series.

With 5 tests in basically seven weeks ( 2 x back to back test matches) they'll pick Marsh manage the loads of bowlers.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I think they will just rotate the bowlers, we will play Starc, Cummins, Pattinson Hazelwood and Siddle throughout the 5 tests.

The key to England’s chances are their top 3 providing enough protection for Root and Stokes and stopping Aussie bowlers getting to them with a semi new ball.
Similar to Aust, giving Smith protection for at least 20 odd overs.
I’m not certain Uzi will be fit for first test.

Harris
Warner
Bancroft
Smith
Labusachagne
Head
Paine
Pattison
Cummins
Hazelwood
Lyon.

Uzi waits until either Bancroft or Harris fail. Harris fails, Bancroft opens.
Bowlers will be rotated. Pattison and Starc will rotate. Hazelwood and Bird/Siddle will rotate.
Head possibly dropped by 3rd test.
If Paine wasn’t there and moving forward I would love to see Carey bats 6 and we play Starc,Hazelwood, Pattison, Cummins and Lyon all in the same side on a deck with something in it.

Enjoying everyone's thoughts on the possible team/squad line up, in a few hours we'll know for sure who will be playing in the Ashes. I'm really interested to see who the selectors pick and it's getting exciting as the first test gets closer and closer.

Not sure how many they will name, but I recon this will be fairly close:

Bancroft
Cummins
Harris
Hazlewood
Head
Khawaja
Labusachagne
Lyon
Marsh
Paine
Patterson
Pattinson
Siddle
Smith
Starc
Wade
Warner

Missing out: Bird, Burns, Carey, Handscomb, Holland, Neser, Pucovski, Tremain

That said, I wouldn't put it past them including the likes of Carey and or Pucovski for experience.

I'm looking forward to seeing the XI for the first test. I'm hoping they pick Pattinson over Starc but not expecting it. I would also understand Siddle or Bird (big fan of him in English conditions) over Hazlewood.

Re the batting it's a bit more difficult to predict. Despite the low scores in the tour match, we've more depth than the last couple of tours of England. It'll be crucial for at least one of the openers and the number three to stick around for a while if we're to make a decent score.

Could we see Patterson dropped after making a century in the previous test? The only other similar occasion I know of is Ian Redpath after his debut. Possibly it happened in the World Series Cricket years.

Marsh performs with the ball in the internal trail and the love affair continues!
How does old mate Daisy take Neser being in the squad?!

Carey, Bird, Holland, Patterson and Burns miss out.

Hopefully Carey can get a county deal and play some cricket, not that disappointed he would have only been running the water unless an injury to Paine.
Dave Warner will be missed!

That's pretty presumptuous by the graphics people behind the Sky Sports coverage - they had Ireland down for one wicket even before Aleem Dar said not out (hit the pocket of Porterfield)

Still, so far all good for Ireland, 0-7, needing 175 more

It appears Neser's ability with the bat helped him edge out Bird for a spot.

The selectors have gone nuts if they're selecting bowlers on their batting ability.

Bird is much more talented, accurate, dangerous, experienced, and able to get lateral movement than Neser.
