And thats the exact reason why you always bat 1st pretty much EVERY time given the choice as regardless what shit you're in with the bat you're always still in the game
Just as Eng Showed against Ireland after being 7/40 odd and conceding over a 100 1st innings deficit. Bat well in your 2nd innings, give the opposition any sort of half decent target and watch'm crumble under the pressure on generally wearing pitches

What a fantastic win. At 8 for 122 on day 1 it looked hopeless, but the Aussies led by Smith fought back magnificently. At the same time the Poms dropped off alarmingly. They will have to make changes. Archer for Anderson. Surely Ali will be dropped and old man Denly must be worried. Can't wait for Friday.

Add Bairstow to that list.

Whilst the Poms have several non performers in this Test I am amazed at the seeming reluctance to use Woakes to any significant degree. Clearly underbowled in the second innings and batting below Ali and Bairstow seems crazy. And with a bowling average of under 10 in 4 Lordd Test matches he may well be Englands Get Out Of Jail Card in the second Test.

What a win!!! Most pleasingly for mine was that we have taken our chance when it presented.

Whilst the end result was a massive win there are still a few cracks that may have been covered. The day one capitulation is a tad of a worry and if not for a stunning Smith performance we would not have won. We can't rely or expect Smith to perform like that every week. The Jimmy Anderson injury was also a luxury for us.

The toss obviously played a crucial part as well. Not sure we would have chased anything over 200 on that day 5 pitch, so it was great that we took our chance to win a game with our bowlers when it presented.

The bowling attack looks perfectly suited for English conditions, consistent line and length with a tad of help from the pitch. For mine this is perfect for english conditions where you are never really 'IN' (unless your Smith) Whilst i think Starc will play at some stage im happy for him to remain out of the side as whilst he can bowl great spells he can also provide a reprieve for batsmen with some real ordinary spells as well.

With a 9 day break until the next test i would expect an unchanged line up unless weather/pitch conditions warrant.

For mine the only positions that will come under question this tour will be Bancroft, Khawaja and Siddle but i would much rather that then questions marks the English are left with.

Do we go unchanged?

I think Bancroft's close in fielding will save him, plus him being a right hander, he wouldn't want another set of failures with the bat though.

How much did Siddle's line and length help the other bowlers? He was tidy and the wicket of Root in the first dig will carry some weight.

Pattinson you'd think will also be safe after getting two of the first three wickets.

Don't worry, there is probably a UK cricket forum, where Poms are saying the same about their Test team. England have been pretty crappy at Test cricket for a while. I think we are some chance.

Yes compare both countries batting stocks and we look to be far better off, means f**k all when our batsman face Anderson and Broad though.

If an opening bat is getting picked because he's good at short leg we're rooted.
