Business as usual from the lads last night, no over the top celebrations just a couple of quite frothies.

Exciting times! This team is on a mission, very bought in to Langers strategy.

Yep I agree Jim, I think they will do it for the Lords Test, Pattinson back in for the 3rd Test with Starc or Cummins to miss that that one. I think as long as Siddle stays fit he plays all 5, he looks more likely to get a wicket than Hazelwood has for 18months. If Hazelwood plays we lose. I am far from Siddles greatest fan but he is just what we need. For those that know how much I rate Neser id even have him play before Hazelwood :D
Which batsman misses if we decide with 2x2 back to back tests coming up that we need a Laubaschange or Marsh in the team. I guess its Khawaja for Laub and Wade for Marsh. I really hope they stick with 6 pure batsman, it will signify a change in attitude and selection policy if they do and we should never hear of a Marsh again

Yeah, must have missed his first innings where he looked clueless against the moving ball :)

It crushes a few people that he succeeded

Not at all. Very happy he succeeded but he is no top order batsman.
Quite happy if he stays at 6 and keeps on scoring runs

This equals series over. We have no one to match his class especially in england. Only hope is to produce raging green seamers and make it a 200 run each innings game and see what happens.

What a fantastic effort. This mob have been to hell and back (Their own fault and stupidity, yes) but that was as tougher performance I have seen over 4 1/2 days from an Australian side in a very, very long time. Grinding a team down like that and in the end they grounded down the English cricketing public who didn’t even bother showing up on the 5th day - This was after they vowed to make our lives hell this tour.

The key now boys is to go for their throats at Lords.

The issue with that is if you lose the toss then you’re cooked. It’s all well and good to prepare green tops like the last tour, however if you lose and you’re sent in then the plan has backfired. Such high risk.

Absolutely but as seen in this test and in Australia we simply cant beat you on the flatter tracks with no quality spinner, real fast bowlers (Archer might be one day) or a consistently good batting line up. We need lots in the wicket and luck with the toss becuase simply we are not good enough to beat a good team like australia.

Was talking about this with mates last night but can you remember a side in recent times that was picked with more of a 'horses for courses' mindset than the first Australian test side.

The entire bowling line up was picked purely on what best suited English conditions with no care factor for reputation, previous test team etc.

Bancroft was also selected on the back of his strong country championship and internal trial.

The only move left to complete the horses for course side would be to see Labaschagne come in for Khawaja.

Rather refreshing to be honest.

Only thing that was against Marnus was his 1000 runs was in division 2 of the County Championship. If he had scored it in Div 1 he would have been picked

Far be it for me to boost a rivals flagging spirits but Joff Archer and Chris Woakes looms large. Woakes has 24 wkts in 4 Lords Tests at an insane average of under 10. Hopefully Joe underbowls him again.
Archer is probably a Starc like option. Will bowl some trash and also some unplayables.

True, but the gap in the two division isn't overly a lot. It's not really like the EPL etc where the standard drops away dramatically and generally has no bearing on selection.

Look at the English bowling line up:

Anderson- Lancashire Div 2
Broad- Nottinghamshire bottom Div 1
Woakes- Warwickshire second to bottom Div 1
Ali- Worcestershire Div 2
Stokes- Durham Div 2

But it is more difficult to get into the side from Division 2.

Ali might not be a great example but he had to have multiple good seasons to finally get a go. He also moved from a big Club in Warwickshire to Worcestershire the next county over.

Joe Clarke has moved from Worcestershire to Nottinghamshire this season in a bid to play Division 1. He's played England Lions the past couple of years. That move might backfire with Notts currently in the relegation zone

I don't like the guy personally but the numbers don't lie and we're there to win games, all I can hope is that the recent events can turn some of these "unlikable" blokes into players that just go out there and get the job done.

Hats off to Warner for showing his pockets when he was getting sledged by the crowd, perhaps it took a big negative for us to become a positive.

We were always arrogant, we were always aggressive and played the game fierce, we lost track of that over the years and came across as front-running sooks, yes we bottomed out and copped some hidings for a little while but respect is earnt, not demanded.

Moving forward, we have another two openers waiting in the wings, a few middle/upper order batsmen, a couple of them can bowl, another keeper and another couple of front line bowlers, the bottoming out process has made the fight for a spot on the team alive and we can only prosper from it.
