Adelaide Crows 2019

Talk on the national game

So why did the crows finally play fog on the weekend? Are they trying to see if he's 'got it'? Or are they trying to pump up his value a little bit before he goes? Or something else?

I was slightly off he's on $550k a year.

JOSH Jenkins has signed a long-term with Adelaide, ending a protracted contract saga for the power forward.

Adelaide’s board — as predicted by The Advertiser — today signed off on a mega, $550,000-a-year deal locking in Jenkins, 27, until 2022, making it likely he will be a Crow for life.

Jenkins rejected interest from several rival clubs, including an offer from Brisbane believed to be worth close to $750,000 a season.

I thought he had only 2 years left on his deal, 3 years makes it much harder for Crows to exit

I'd be moving Sloane into the forward half next year. He's as competitive as they come at ground level, can take a mark for his size and knows where the goals are. Move Betts out or on, bring Sloane into the forward half with Murphy/Jones and add some pace at ground level and some tackling pressure.
Also free's up a spot in the midfield to bring in a player with some speed.

Could they try running Betts from half back like they did with Cameron at times? He's still quick and perhaps can get them moving faster through the middle?

Just a thought.

Would suit Carlton well. Another bigger body to support Cripps. With guys like Walsh, Fisher and Dow coming on that would actually improve Carlton some what.

Maybe a mid to late 2nd rounder?

More than poorly worded, factually incorrect considering contracts expire 31/10 each year.

Betts is done from a playing perspective, can't believe anyone would be offering him a playing deal.

Exactly, take his 12 goals against Gold Coast off of his tally and it leaves him with 24 from 17 outings, 2 bags of 3 goals in there too.

I love the guy, love what he's done and what he can do, he just doesn't do it often enough anymore.

I think it's more the fact when he has no impact on a game he just has no impact at all on a game.

Is Betts' form part of the reason for the average Crows performances or his individual form more a symptom of the team average performance.

I’d give up a late 2nd rounder for him.
As a big bodied mid it would allow Cripps to go forward more.

Bloody oath, I can't work out why the Crows don't give him more games, always looks dangerous up forward and has the motor to play on ball, his disposal and tackle averages aren't too bad for a 50 gamer.

I'd agree, in the main. I think the loss of Cameron has been really noticeable this year, his pressure created opportunities for Betts at ground level and gave the opposition reason to worry about him at the foot of the packs.

Without him Betts can be sat on and Betts isn't the tackling pressure player he once was. ( 2019 is his lowest average tackle count per game since joining Adelaide )

That, and in years past we have gotten away with poor leg speed with quick ball movement. Now we don't have either and the forwards are all starved as the oppo gets numbers back.

It was no coincidence that Eddie and JJ got so many goals 10-20m out. They had the opportunity as the ball came in that quickly and deep they got separation from the one on one.

Big changes needed.
