On Sports Sunday yesterday a very grumpy Ian Chappell has Australia on track for a 5-0 result!

I'd be waiting to see what happens at Lords before making those sorts of predictions. Let's not forget that England were a bowler down for almost the entire game and I suspect there might have been a lingering hang over, post World Cup. It will be fascinating to see if Archer can have an impact at Test level. He has some mighty big boots to fill! Lords, with it's slope can be a little tricky for some bowlers and Archer, Pattinson and Cummins will all be playing their first test, so it will be interesting to see how they handle it.

I used to enjoy Chappelli's views but seeing him voice his views on WWOS has become cringeworthy, 5-0 is a f**king ridiculous call after just one match. He did make one good point though, Liz Ellis commented about being nervous about the Australian batting line up and asked who will stand up if Smith doesn't perform and part of Chappelli's response was if she was an Englishwoman she would be extremely nervous. If we're worried about our batting line up performing then how must the English fans feel about their top 6/7.

There both reasonably average batting line ups, when the ball moves Australia still showed they were average. The difference is smith has been better then root time and again. Im fascinated to see how archer goes, smiths worst batting record is againt South Africa which would suggest genuine pace is the best bet against him. Not saying archer is anywhere near the level of rabada or steyn but see if extra pace makes a difference. The thought of a left arm spinner causing him issues is stupid, he will toy with jack leach for fun.

and al our lefties will toy with him too, Ali at his best would've been a handful for the majority of our batting order. Smith has done them a huge favour

Don't we have a ridiculously good record at Lord's? This'd be the match we least want to see interrupted by weather.

Long term yes, went something like 75 years without a loss there, but more recently its been ok at best. Lost 2 of the last 3 I believe.

They cant have Cummins, Hazelwood and Siddle in the same team, especially on a dry road like they are saying. Its a very pedestrian attack on that type of woicket. Surely Starc is replacing Siddle, if its as dry as they say there should be some reverse for Starc

Young Joe might be regretting his comments to the curator after the Irish test based on the reports for this pitch

Rested?

Bloody hell, the test finished eight days ago.

In 1962, Derek Shackleton bowled over 1,800 overs for the season. Nowadays you can't play two matches in a row. Unbelievable.

Not sure the pitch will be a dry road if the weather forecast for London is going to be correct?

He's been 'put on ice

Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood named in squad for Lord's clash, while James Pattinson has been put on ice

Fast bowler James Pattinson will miss the second Ashes Test after Australia named a 12-man squad for the clash at Lord's without the Victorian.

NSW Blues quicks Josh Hazlewood and Mitch Starc are in the squad to face England, starting Wednesday.

Pattinson was available for selection but with the tight schedule and his long injury history, the 29-year-old has been put on ice.

The first Test at Edgbaston, where he produced match figures of 2-111 from 35 overs, was Pattinson's first Test in three-and-a-half years after suffering a series of devastating back injuries that led to the right-armer undergoing radical surgery.

Hazlewood missed out on playing at Edgbaston on the morning of the match, overlooked for Peter Siddle on a "gut feel" by the selectors.
