Mate - Not really trying, are you?

Buddy - Bit soft.

Pal - You're old, go home.

Thanks for the clarification. I avoid using any of them if I can. Though I run with mate when I can’t remember someone’s name.

love being called "cobber" from old people... Doesn't happen much any more, but when it does, gee it's special

My Dad has always used “Ace” instead of champ, etc.
I’ve always found it strange and now a “mate” of mine has a son named Ace

The old barman Col at Pt Districts used to call all the lads Ace.

Guy I work with calls everyone Big Fella. Very annoying.

Cobber/cob is quite common amongst ex armed forces personnel. One of my closest mates who is the president of an RSL calls everyone cob/cobber. He's an absolute legend who use to be a para trooper.
A lot of my closest mates are ex armed forces so i hear it a bit.

Whoops, tiredness, no idea how that happened, was an accident, fixed now. Must go to bed. Just finished 5 night shifts in a row managing a pub. Thank Christ I'm back to my usual part time hours next week only managing one night and getting back in the front bar for the rest. That'll teach me for helping out as a manager when the pub is short of staff. Just competed two weeks of full time work, stuff that for a joke!
Hopefully we don't lose two managers to illness whilst one is overseas again! Wish I got ill occasionally, the rest would be nice! Not one sick day in two years in hospitality but it's so easy on the health compared to office work.
I really do feel sorry for people that have to work in this industry (or night shift) full time though, one week of it and I'm ******!

Looking forward to getting back into a pub as a patron later today as opposed to working in one! :D

My old man uses ‘cob’ and ‘pal’, and also used to use ‘China’, pretty old school rhyming slang.

Having lived most of my life with my cockney grand mother at times it felt like she spoke in riddles. A few I vividly remember that she used up until the day she passed away were:

Bees and Honey- Money
Apples and Pairs- Stairs
China- Mate (china plate)
Custard & Jelly- Telly
Loaf- head (loaf of bread)
tomfoolery- jewellery

Always had to wear my daisy roots outside in winter.

I'd be leaving, by any means possible.

Satellite photos show what appear to be Chinese armoured personnel carriers and other military vehicles across the border from Hong Kong.

Parked in a sports complex in the city of Shenzhen, the deployment has been interpreted as a threat from Beijing to use increased force against pro-democracy protesters.

The pictures, collected on Monday by Maxar’s WorldView, show 500 or more vehicles sitting on and around the soccer stadium at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre.

The military force is just across the harbour from the Asian financial hub that has been rocked by near-daily street demonstrations.

Either that, or there's one cracker of a football match happening in Shenzen!

Seriously though, if the demonstrations continue it's hard to see the Chinese not exercising force to restore order. Can you fit an tank into an airport?

No, you can't fit a tank into an airport but you can put a tank where an airport ( and protesters ) used to be.
