The Crows are, in the main, as Malcolm Blight stated last night, a fairly mediocre football club.
Some highlights but they never seem to last and it's back to middle of the road for stretches.
This mediocrity increasingly jars against a very large supporter base (with very limited ability to influence) and huge media exposure.
Throw in some arrogant personalities in top roles and it's a very volatile mix that was going to boil over sooner or later.
Chapman still there after all these years is indicative of their problems.

Chapman should be the first one out, the culture (or lack thereof) starts at the top and flows down. Whilst things look bleak for the Crows, ironically they only need to look across town at how quickly things can turnaround, with an eye toward Port in 2012:

- Massively on the decline
- About to effectively get denied the draft perks that typically come with their ladder position (due to the expansion clubs draft concessions)
- The threat of losing players to the expansion clubs
- The threat of losing players to the “go home factor”(ie, Boak)
- A terrible list (players like Phillips running around for them. Note: Great SANFL player, but never AFL material)
- Aged stars
- An allegedly poor coach (who to be fair was hamstrung by finances)
- A terrible financial position
- Crowds as low as 15k

Plenty of culling out, plenty of cast-offs brought in (Heath, Stephenson, Hombsch etc) - Next season play finals, following season lose a Prelim to the eventual premier by less than a kick.

It can can happen quickly, but can't afford to get many (or any) decisions wrong.

I agree! After months of us apparently making the wrong decision with the draft pick/swap for Stocker, now I can sit back and watch this all play out.

Amuses me that a supporter of a side that finishes 3rd bottom and has been irrelevant for decades gets amusement out of other clubs struggles.

Mate... after the year I've had copping it from all Adelaide supporters, I have a new level of disrespect for your club and supporters. :-)

In all seriousness, it made me follow Adelaide's plight a little more closely this season.

Same. It’s been very quiet since we knocked them off

Been offered a 3 year deal by Freo as a player/coach apparently.

Good luck to him if that's true he was a champion player at the club but it's time for him and others to move on now.

Surely the new Freo coach would want to have a say on who the club offers coaching contracts to?

There's that many assistant coaches these days it makes you wonder what actual input they have.

I did the running a few years back at my local club. We had coach, manager, 3 assistants and 2 runners. Every home game we had to get more chairs out from the clubroom

He's not cut...yet. Think you'll find a trade is on the cards with the old 1 year playing 2 year coaching contract. Win win.
