He'd be on 500k plus next year at Adelaide. Carlton would need to cover all of that.

500k tops I'd say, last year of a deal for a 33 year old wouldn't be huge, he'd have been well rewarded before this. Purely a guess, but I'd doubt he'd be over 500k.

his initial contract at Adelaide was 4 x 500k then he re-signed after that. Doubt he would have taken a pay cut after those initial 4 years of 50+ goals per year.

If the trade goes through, Carlton have been sitting on this at least two years.

They were informed by their people on the ground in Adelaide (a highly trusted source within Carlton) on how Eddie had sorted his life out and settled down following his move to Adelaide and the role he had played in mentoring the likes of Cameron, Milera and others aboriginal players in Adelaide.

Eddie going to Carlton is more about him helping Carlton get the best out of Petrovski-Seaton, Le Bois and Gartlett.

Sure him playing AFL or VFL along side them and showing them the ropes will be a bonus. The are marketing benefits too as others have alluded to.

This deal for him at Carlton will also include an off-field role post footy.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

That would be my thinking.

Best case is Betts kicks 40-45 goals next year they finish between 9-12 and then have to replace 40-45 goals the year after.

You’re dreaming if you think otherwise.
Get used to not playing finals.

I can share some tips if you need.

Carlton to finish higher than the crows in 2020.

He’s clearly past his best but he’s worth taking a chance on for his mentoring role.

Plus he’ll play well in a good side next year ;)

Right now Carlton are better than Adelaide, in 12 months time they will be poles apart.
Crows bottom 5, Carlton 5-10th

Anyone else think the Crows will want a 2nd round pick for him even though they don't want him?
IMO its a trade equal to Hodge, Mitchell etc, somewhere in the 90s should get it done. Crows have to be very careful here or risk a massive backlash from members. A pick in the 90s is the best way to appease the fans
