We are batting England out of the game and yet we are only playing with two batsmen.

Really happy to see Paine make some runs. He will always be under pressure until the day Carey takes his spot but he deserves far more credit for the makeover of the Aussie cricket brand. And this is more likely to come when he makes some runs

Said to a mate last night I'd like to see Archer on a dead Mumbai track in 40 degree heat, he'd fall apart like a soggy sao.

Harsh, he is only in is 2nd test match, thats the beauty of test match cricket, it exposes you, he will be good for a long time. He would have learnt more in the last month than he has in the last 10 years.

Not harsh at all... i have never seen Pat Cummins just rolling his arm over and with negative body language that Archer displayed in this innings. And he has played more than Archers 3 tests. The first sign it gets tough and he mentally checks out.
Time will tell and he clearly will have days when it falls in place but personally I am happier to have Cummins and Hazlewood than Archer for full hearted commitment.

haha seriously he is a baby in test cricket, Smith and Warnie were very similar in their first few tests.

Warnie got pasted in his first Test but he still wanted the ball in his hand, didn't shy away because things didn't suit him.

Really pleased to see Paine get a 50. His lack of runs has resulted in many critics and whilst he is unlikely to go on beyond next summer he deserves to be recognised in the future as a great conduit for the changing of the Aussie cricket team culture. He has a magnificent attitude towards winning and losing in a competitive but fair manner.
I think his attitude immediately after losing the 3rd Test and in between Tests was a major reason we did not succumb as many pundits thought we would.

Some pearls of wisdom that typified his mind set:

“I know from outside a lot’s been made. We’ve heard Jofra talk about momentum and the ball’s in their court, and all this sort of stuff,”

“You can believe in that story if you want to.”

Australia only “deals in facts”.

I for one love the astute wisdom and calm approach he has. Not saying he doeant make errors but his demeanour and good guy but still combative approach has been perfect coming at a time when we stunk both in Oz and overseas.

As hard as it is sometimes you just have to say a blokes way to good and smith is just way to good. Hes annoying and ive hated watching him bat for what feels like my whole life but you just have to appreciate true greatness at a craft and smith is showing that so fair play to him.

Yes Jofra needs to improve his attitude but im not going to write off a bloke beacuase of one poor innings, if we did that smith wouldnt be here 8)

Hopefully the rain stays away and we can see some cricket. Dont want to survive because of weather!

Archer has the talent but does he have the ticker when things aren't going his way? So far you'd say no, but he's only young. You survive through any legal means lad, in your shoes I'd be happy if it pissed down. If I was young Joe I'd be doing a rain dance. Why hasn't Foakes been picked for this series, he can bat and is a far superior keeper to Bairstow.

Its a fair question which we will find out the answer to over the next year or two but the bloke averaged 13 in his first two tests so im going to back him in. I just want to watch cricket and i want us to prove we can survive! Been asking that all summer, think its cos they want blokes batting where they are comfortable but foakes will be in the team soon i think.

Buttler doesn't look like he knows how he should be batting, and the fact that he's been shuffled round the middle order indicates the selectors aren't convinced he's the right fit. I don't reckon you'd lose anything canning hin for Foakes.

In this innings Buttler will bat 8. What team has specialist #8s these days? Bizarre.

I would have played woakes ahead of Buttler. I reckon the former is an underused talent.

He's an impact bowler, short bursts. Michael Vaughan would use him far better than Joe Root.
