I will not comment on a sustainable financial model because I have no experience in that department much like the majority of all clubs' fans.

Most fans comment on afl structures, strategies, injury management, player contracts, salary caps and don’t have that experience, that doesn’t stop them.

Most fans who have played the game have experience in structures, strategies and injury management. Player Contracts and Salary caps are talked about more often and are a brief read for the common fan making it easier to form an opinion.

I don’t think anyone knows the answer but as much as we give Port stick on here we need 2 financially viable AFL clubs in this state. It’s a pretty tough gig in this state and Toyota’s loyalty to the Crows has been phenomenal but it’s a tough market to crack. There is just more bang for your buck sponsoring a big Melbourne club. I do think Port memberships are quite cheap so perhaps a increase is needed to boost their bottom line

Bizarre.
My understanding is that Port have about 25,000-30,000 11x game memberships. By increasing the membership by $10-20 a year you are putting an extra $250-500k a year into the kitty

Even a small 1.5-3% CPI increase would see a nice little income generation which would be understood by the membership base.

Yes but if you lose 5% because they cannot afford it then there is no gain. Like Adelaide the on field performance has an effect on pricing.

You're assuming they get the same membership in 2020 but they had less this year

If you lose 5% of because of a 2% price increase I would be a lot more worried about the value of the memberships than the price point.

Keep in mind we now know people buy with emotion and justify with logic, there is no greater emotional attachment than support for a football club. If they don’t renew it’s a 97% chance they weren’t anyway and are now justifying it with the logic of the cost. If the emotion was gone though they were not renewing regardless of cost.

Pretty much every business you will be dealing with will be raising their price by CPI you need to do something to try and recoup some of that back.

If the product is crap the price point is irrelevant.
If they improve on field they’ll increase their membership and prices to go with it.

Just fingers crossed and hope they exist by that point hey.

BTW most people would agree the ‘product’ is rubbish these days compared to the late 90’s in particular yet that hasn’t impacted membership numbers.

Refer to opinions on the ‘AFL has lost me thread’

AFL clubs have the luxury of a captive audience, there are two types of AFL membership purchaser

1/ will literally pay anything to be a member every year, loyal to death. Take Booney as a classic example, whinges the AFL is losing him, disenchanted with the club, questioning the price.....will be the first in line for sales next seaaon

2/ supporter who jumps off at the first sign of no onfield success, will use any other excuse to defend their non attendance. Wouldn’t purchase a $50 membership if there Team wasn’t winning

Is a trade needed or a FA?

If trade a third rounder?

6 years service so not making RFA status, a trade required.

I'd say a 3rd rounder would be generous, but about right.
