There has been talk of soccer taking over the current facility and a new oval and facilities built for the footy club, not sure if any of it was factual though.

The footy club has just installed new LED lighting this year which is fantastic and the best in the south.

There definitely was factual talks about relocating the footy club, in fact I think the Marion Council publicised this in May this year.
Seems awfully coincidental that clearly the footy club didn't want to move, now a whole raft of allegations come out about inappropriate behaviour.

Seems a cowardly way of achieving the outcome they want for soccer. Also penalises the vast majority (if the allegations were true), for the deeds of a few idiots, which most clubs have at some point. The only positive I can see here is the potential for a decent size oval, which is the only deficiency of the existing facility. Good luck to the Cobras management committee in fighting this.

From The Advertiser... Acting Council chief executive officer Fiona Harvey said the behaviour described in the investigation report were “inconsistent with community standards and unacceptable”. The behaviour included:

– Inappropriate behaviour, disrespectful language and intimidating conduct (resulting) in other sporting clubs not using the facility because they felt unwelcome or unsafe.

– Insulting sexist language directed at a female staff member and sexual harassment of female netball players.

– A sense of entitlement and “ownership” of the facility, with other clubs experiencing territorial or unwelcome acts when they attempt to use it. (The Hallett Cove facility is also used by two netball clubs, a cricket club, BMX club and soccer club).

“Council has made the decision to cancel the tenancy and send a strong message that it will not condone this type of extreme behaviour in its community facilities,” Ms Harvey said.

“Council considered that the actions of some of the members will, unfortunately, have an impact on the rest of the club.

“The Council hopes the women’s and junior teams can continue to play football in some format next year.”

Umm how is this behaviour any of the council's problem?

*edit* not condoning it, just curious why/how the council can step in as a result.

Council took over management of the site and run it with a facility manager. Happened back in January when they had the Sporting Club surrender their licence.

What do they mean by this? Is this a case of Marion Council having no understanding of how Southern clubs operate? We generally are not three separate clubs like those on the plains.

Bizarre statement, looks like they are trying to punish the "senior men's club".

The rugby club i play for has been using Lyndoch Oval for 6-7 years now, never had an issue with the Council infact they were planning on expanding the rugby as part of the new sports precint in Tanunda which was going to include two rugby pitches.

Unfortunately the funding for that project fell through but Council have decided that Barossa Districts (aussie rules) who were going to move to Lyndoch when the rugby team moved to Tanunda will still get the Lyndoch ground leaving my rugby club without a ground to play at in 2020. Reason being they promised the aussie rules club the Lyndoch Oval and they had already started to invest in projects for that ground.

Bullshit!

Barossa Districts moving to Lyndoch has been on the cards for many years it’s not a spur of the moment thing. The funding and planning has been in the pipeline for a number of years. Lyndoch cricket club is getting their turf deck installed at Christmas time

I know but Barossa Rams were told they were getting a new facility in Tanunda which was all part of the Barossa move back to Lyndoch

It was all part of a major project in the region. Now that has fallen threw the Rams have been left without a home because the Council aren’t willing to renig on their deal with the football despite being will to renig on their deal with the Rugby club

The rugby club were told there would be no moving of grounds until they had an appropriate grounds that changed overnight

Yeah that validates some sort of agenda, even stranger when its the cove women's team that has had the most controversy of late, most in the south would have seen the photos

5 senior teams including female and masters
6 junior teams

Like I said the Rams have actually assisted with the move from Lyndoch, the club has no problems moving but they were guaranteed they would not be moved until the Council completed the Tanunda redevlopments which their clubrooms/fields were a major part of

Judging by the media release there would still be footy played at the ground next year. Just none by the Senior Men.... So the witch hunt to replace them with Soccer seems a bit unfounded at this stage as otherwise the whole club would have been turfed. It’s an enormous statement to make by directly targeting the Senior Men’s sides.

I didn't realize you had that many teams.
The Barossa doesn't have enough Ovals at the moment, another suitable for cricket would be beneficial and Rugby could use that in the winter. Moculta oval is available in the winter, used to be for Hockey, its already a rectangle, nice little set up. Could work in the short term.
On this same subject when was the last time a council made a developer put in an Oval at a new housing development. All the housing in Gawler over the last 20 years and not one oval has been added.

Yeah absolutely not enough ovals

The disappointment has come from being told sorry we upholding our deal with the football and off you go find somewhere else

The club is growing, caters for people of all genders, ages, physical size and has a inclusion program for people with disabilities to play. The club is in an extremely strong financial position and brings tourism into the region with most of the teams coming from ‘south’ staying the weekend at local accomodation when they play us at home.

The club understands the need for the Barossa move but believes it should have the respect of being relocated to adequate facilities.

My info is it is not related to the Soccer whatsoever although the Soccer club are not disappointed that this has happened as it opens up a big opportunity for them.
