As Hinkley said, it's foolish to suggest Ryder is the missing piece in the premiership puzzle.

Anyone with some intelligence knows that call was made by the media, not the PAFC.

Btw the fact the St Kilda haven’t won a premiership actually makes the statement facts because those players gone won’t be part of their next premiership side when or if it ever happens

100 factually correct

South, St Kilda.....

Agree, it should be more like, next time they make top 4 and challenge side, that is reality but not as sexy as saying "premiership side"

It's a bit like the supporters when their club goes into rebuild mode. Many happy clap along believing that the new talent will make them better in the long run.

Loading up on draft pics doesn't guarantee anything. All it does is provide optimism and hope (which is not a bad thing!)

We've seen enough failed rebuilds to know it can be fools gold.

Absolutely. Done right rebuilds can bring you back to the top ( Brisbane, this year ) done wrong ( Carlton, 4 times ) it can be catastrophic.

There are no assurances when doing so though.

Suns and Carlton have shown that it is not all about on field rebuild, everything needs to be rebuilt and off field is just as important.

Splitting hairs lads, I think most people take the line as "The next time they're a legitimate flag chance"

Clubs exist to win Premierships off course their language when talking future goals/strategies/implementations etc is going to be of the ultimate prize.

That would be like my work who are in the business of winning tenders setting their business strategies/visions as 'increasing the amount of times we make it to the final two of the tendering process.' Off course its bloody not, its about winning contracts. You don't win them all but it doesn't change what you mission or vision is.

Look at Richmond, they spoke how their ten year plan was to win A premiership and have 100,000 members. It wasn't to be a consistent top four contender, consistently make the grand final, it was about winning A premiership.

From a level playing field, each team has a 5.5% chance of winning a flag each season or if you can win 2 in an 18 year time frime you have exceeded the odds.

If you are going to measure success purely on flags, you are more often than not going to be left disappointed, unless of course you are Hawthorn.

And if you walk out with a new opening partner and say "You'll be here for my next 100" you're full of shit. Like a premiership, you don't know when, or if, it's coming.

Doesn't mean you don't aim/plan/practise/dream/talk for it.

Every single AFL clubs is trying to build their next premiership side. Whether they win it or not is irrelevant because it is always going to be a clubs focus regardless of ladder position/history etc. The journey to winning their next premiership may mean they have to get back to being competitive but their still ultimately aiming to win a premiership.

What Richmond just achieved is great but right now Hardwick and co will be planning how and what does their next premiership look like.

Shoot for the moon and if you miss you may hit the stars.

Maybe Carlton could run the marketing campaign 'our futures so bright we're going to finish twelfth'
