This isn't just a Port situation or anything like that but is it just me that thinks draft picks after 20 are slightly overrated.

For mine once you start getting into the second round you are really starting to split hairs between picks 20, 30, 40 etc. Would be interested to see history of picks 20-30 compared to picks 30-40, i would be surprised if there is much different in what those players became.

If you could give up a pick 21 as an example for a bloke that has shown he has the ability to play decent football at that level, you know he can handle the pressure, you know he can get through a preseason, you know a fair bit about his real personality surely that is a massive gain compared to trying to strike gold with an 18 year old and the all the unknowns that come with that.

Below is the 2016 draft picks in the 20's (long enough for players to have developed somewhat) and it's a list of good, bad and ugly and to be honest only a few at most that you would now choose over Howard.

20 Isaac Cumming
21 Will Hayward
22 Jordan Ridley
23 Alex Witherden
24 Cedric Cox
25 Ben Long
26 Brandan Parfitt
27 Zac Fisher
28 Patrick Lipinski
29 Shai Bolton
30 Sam McLarty

Ryder will go for a very late pick, those two deals are totally separate. Rucci mentioned that Ryder was Ports highest paid player this year

How could they be separate? Port can use the Ryder leverage to get what they want for Howard.

Absolutely there would be, has a reputation of being a loose unit.
I wonder if he continues to play footy next year back at the Eagles or Henley?
