I'm lost.

Whilst I think Howard's value on the open market is probably an early - mid second rounder, his value to Port is much, much more.

I am still amazed he was encouraged to test the market.

With the coach determined to play him forward or in the sanfl, his value to port really wasnt that much.
You would take 18 for a fringe player every day.

How much should clubs listen to their members though? Where do you start and end with it?

Could be all sorts of underlying private issues that the public aren't aware of.

Very true, but on the surface of it, it looks like Port are drunk.

Absolutely, nuffies like me aren't best served to make list management decisions, not by any stretch, but, given the discontent the co-captaincy created, next years 150th anniversary and a decline in membership numbers you'd think the club might just reconsider something that, universally, was condemned by the members.

You answered why the club didn’t reconsider in your first ten words.

The day fans have any kind of say on list management is the day your club is shot completely. Ultimately your just a membership number to the clubs and ultimately if the club was to go completely broke the AFL would never let them fold so really there is no consequence for poor management, I use the GC as my evidence.

Yep and ultimately nothing has really changed, the nuffies still can’t bring themselves to do a serious boycott and whilst the SANFL is receiving significant funding from the AFL the protestors/non attenders are nothing more than a nuisance fly.

The SANFL will tell you it’s never been better positioned.

I think that whole debate proves my point further.

99.9% of those against all those things you mentioned will be there in round 3 if Port have a 2-0 start.

Can I put money on the crowds will drop and this will be a major reason for that if they lose games early.

Can I also put money on it will be dougall who and crowd attendances will go up if they win games early.

2 separate issues IMO, things like the number of Captains is something they should get member input for, this is something that hasn't changed for 148 years, not sure any club is ever going to listen its members when it comes to list management though.

Because we are not pricks to deal with going the other way
Hill to Freo favoured them
Mitchell, Hodge and Lewis were freebies.
Wingard we gave up a fair bit.

I think what it comes down to is we have a very low opinion of the draft and what order you get them in. We just back ourselves to find something useful no matter what pick it is. Only time we need picks is for talented father/sons bidding

$600k for a bloke that will probably spend a lot of time at Box Hill?

Are they paying that?

Yep.
GWS need the $600k off their books to keep Cameron, Whitfield etc. They took the low pick on the condition the Hawks pay his existing contract.
Same as Scully last year

Jim was there when Patton signed the contract

Apparently Howard had a big falling out with one of the coaches, Montgomery, is he the defensive coach?
