The last two years have been an unmitigated disaster for the Crows — and the sting was still being felt this trade period. Alex Keath, Eddie Betts, Sam Jacobs, Josh Jenkins, Cam Ellis-Yolmen and Hugh Greenwood all found new homes. That’s a massive shake up of the list. Over to you, Matthew Nicks.

Port Adelaide

While Dougal Howard mightn’t be the biggest household name, among the Power faithful he’s highly rated. Kane Cornes labelled Howard’s trade to St Kilda as a complete disaster, saying “Port Adelaide have completed botched this one in my opinion”. Cornes also suggested the club had given up too much for Ryder. The exit of Billy Frampton wasn’t as earth shattering, but the club’s inability to land Orazio Fantasia was rather flattening.

Adelaide: Not sure what we really lost out of that lot. Keath I would have liked to keep. I can see why they would think 'losers' but depends which strategy you look at it from.

Port: Howard is a massive mistake. When he is coming over the top and spoiling Dixon at Adelaide Oval next year, watch the unwashed start to boo Kenny. Got some good draft picks to play with and like Adelaide, probably need to judge them in 2-3 years.
Unwashed, so you mean all of them?

I wash mine. You should see how fast I can do it.

Loading up future pics for points to take Darryl Borlase's kid from the Academy?

+ Tyson Edwards kid the year after

I can't express how happy I am that Borlase's son is aligned to Adelaide. It just seems, I don't know, completely ******. Does that seem about right?

I couldn’t work that one out either

The Sydney Swans were unable to reach an agreement with Essendon on a suitable trade for forward Joe Daniher.

Daniher notified the club of his intention to continue his career at Sydney for season 2020 and beyond.

However, following discussions with Essendon during the AFL Trade Period, a suitable trade could not be reached between the two clubs.

Swans Head of Football Charlie Gardiner said this was always a possible outcome given Daniher is contracted for another 12 months.

“We knew going into the negotiation that it would be difficult given Joe is contracted to the Essendon Football Club,” Gardiner said.

“We have had a number of discussions with Essendon and those discussions were very respectful and we put forward what we believed were compelling offers.”

“Unfortunately we were unable to satisfy Essendon’s demands.”

Gardiner said the Club was never willing to trade any of its players as part of the deal.

“We went into the negotiation with what we thought was a suite of draft assets that we thought might be able to satisfy Essendon but unfortunately that wasn’t the case,” he said.

“They were insistent that the deal involve a player which we weren’t prepared to do so we weren’t able to agree on a mutually acceptable deal.

“It is disappointing but we thank Essendon for the way they have handled it, we move on and revisit it in twelve months.”

Borlase played 246 games for Port Adelaide, the ruling is that players who played 200 SANFL games before Port's entry in 1997 qualify as father son. At that time, Borlase had played 196.

In the years after Daryl and Jenny Borlase went and lived in the middle East, that's where James was born. As a player not born in Australia he's subject to the Next Generation rule and Adelaide listed him as an academy player.

So if he wins a Brownlow he'll be the first middle-eastern Brownlow medallist.

I think you can, anyone born outside Australia can be put on that list, however you would need to rookie him to do that and that would give other clubs a crack at him. Hence (presuming he is draft worthy) they grab him via the priority Academy access.

He plays at Sturt who are aligned to the Crows, thats why they get priority.

If Daryl wanted him at Port he should have played SANFL footy for West Adelaide, South Adelaide, Norwood or Eagles

Or the AFL could offer Port the same father/son rules the other clubs with a history prior to the expansion into the AFL are afforded. ;)

Cat B rookies don’t go in the draft, they just get signed, ala the Irish players

Yes but any club can grab them, including Port. The academy ties him to the Crows.
