Trans Tasman Trophy

Postby Lightning McQueen » Wed Dec 04, 2019 11:17 am

The Aussies have gone with a 13 man squad after delisting Bancroft from the selected squad that played the Paki's.

Although it comes as no surprise I would've thought they'd chuck a kid in there to tour for the experience and some insurance incase a batsman falls ill on the morning of the first test.

Green would've been the likely choice going by form and being in Perth, he may still be lucky enough to get a late call up if they overlooked Marsh in an emergency situation.

It would've been far better to have played the shaggers in a five match series like we once used to, I don't get the concept of having "best of two" series' like we did against the Paki's.

My prediction: 3-nil with a huge win in Perth to kick the tour off, Melbourne will be a dour test and then we'll flog them again in Sydney.

We've never played New Zealand in a 5 test series. Always been 2 or 3 match series with the exception of a handful of stand-alone tests.

As Trevor Hohns eluded in his press conference to announce the squad- Green no chance for Australian selection just yet because he can't bowl at the moment because of an ongoing back injury, surely they wait until he's 100% fit and able to bowl before considering him.

So it is, my memory has let me down, I thought we used to play everyone in 5 test series'.

Looking back, we used to have two lots of 3 which would allow Bellerive to get a game in every so often, then we'd have both touring sides play in the WSC, I wish that was still about, it made ODI's interesting when there was a premiership table.

This will be a good series, NZ currently got 4 players in the top 12 test bats and the #3 test bowler

In recent times they've had 2 series against Sri Lanka, a series at home against England, one against the Paki's and one against the Windies, they should be flying.

Hohns also hinted that Bancroft is still well in the mix. Hopefully WA help the selectors out and drop him from their team..
Green probably the most in form bat at shield level, doesn't need his bowling

We need to win in Perth as i reckon the MCG and SCG will suit the Kiwis a bit more with the MCG potentially being an absolute road. Catch the kiwis on the hop on hopefully a fast bouncy Optus stadium which is a million miles away from where the Kiwis have been playing their cricket of late NZ and WC in England.

Australia to win the series but don't underestimate the kiwis they have had some super impressive away series wins of late and have proven to be a really good outfit. This series is actually really underrated, it will be much more competitive then the ashes.

The forecast for the start of play is for somewhere near 50° in the middle of Optus Stadium.

If there is ever a time to reminisce about Tony Greig.....

Love the car in the background with Benson & Hedges sponsorship.

Is it a golden Nissan Pintara, or Skyline maybe?
