Rubbish, they play it worse now because of Phil Hughes?? Don't think it enters their minds at all.
Use your bat, the ball cant hit you then, they are 130km/hr ffs. He wont be bowling long if they are getting pulled for 4 3 times an over

Yeah obviously, they don't take it on as much, you don't think guys like Head would have it in the back of their mind.

No I don't think it would be in the back of their mind.
You might be right that they don't take it on as much but I think that's more a lack of ability. Maybe they are too scared to take it on because of the backlash they would cop in the media if they got out hooking. Only a couple of our bats have their spots assured,
At the end of the day Wagner shouldn't be getting away with it and had he played 10-15 years ago he wouldn't be

Imagine how this Australian team would've fared against the Windies of the 80s and 90s. Its poor batting that Wagner is made to look like he's bowling 150km/hr thunderbolts. Smith has a long way to go to be rated best after Bradman.
Ponting, Hayden and Blewett would all be playing him on the front foot through mid wicket, Wagners career would last one Test against those blokes.

I don't think it's so much the pace but the way the Aussies have played Wagner has alot to do with ego and temperament, aswell as Wagner's execution and accuracy of his bouncer. We all know with the way Aussies play they are always going to take the short ball on looking for runs and it's very hard for them to put away the pull and hook shot and look to duck, evade and leave the ball, it's unnatural and it's been hard to not full into the simple trap that Wagner sets. It's not great cricket to watch bowling like that and getting wickets that way, but it plays on the Aussie bastmans ego and has been very effective for him and you have to respect him for his effort and execution so far. Let's just see if he can keep it up in second innings and then the third test.

Love the way we are going about building a first innings score.

Genuine patience shown in general, picking bowlers and moments to attack, making the bowlers come back for a 4-5 spell, cash in on the second day when the pitch calms down, no surprise Head and Paine are batting well with the platform their being left. Almost old score test cricket.

When Wade loses his place I would like to see Head move up to five which I think is his long term test spot. Laba, Smith, Head all a sudden looks a strong middle order.

What about Andrew Hilditch in 1984-85. Was representing S.A. at the time and was born in North Adelaide.
That makes him a South Australian as far as I am concerned.

Head was at 5, I think they’ve just being trying to protect him until he regains his mojo.

Head batted 6. He should be 5 and Wade 6 though.

I didn’t mean this test, I was talking about the ashes and I think he was listed at 5 vs Pakistan both times but Wade came in before him both times.

I’m starting to see the spoilt brat Steve Smith that we started to dislike.
His carry on about the dead ball was park cricket stuff, he didn’t make a genuine effort to evade it, it reminded me of what a kid would do.

A couple of other things that are really showing this summer, Tubby Taylor has rocks in his head, his Aussie & World XI’s of the decade were laughable and Shane Warne should stick to chasing skirt, he’s the Kane Cornes of cricket.

One more, I hate it when sportsmen I admired end up being tools in the media, David King wears the crown for footy, he was my favourite player outside the team I supported and now Geoff Lawson is killing my admiration for him.

Agree.
Wagners bouncer is accurate and skids on due to his smaller stature.
But I think guys like Smith and Wade werent intimidated... they just dont want to take the risk. Smith was out twice last game to Wagner's short stuff so decided he would not play cross bat. This played into Wagners hands.. Wade also. It took Paines compulsive pulling before Wagner had to adjust. His approach was great. He smacked them when below eyeline and pulled out when they were above his line of sight.

Compulsive viewing though.
