Angry Cobargo residents explode at Scott Morrison as PM tours fire-ravaged towns

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has hastily left a meeting with bushfire victims in the town of Cobargo after angry residents began yelling furiously.

Mr Morrison was touring the devastated region after fire tore through the township on Monday night, tragically killing a father and son.

After taking snaps with a few locals, Mr Morrison was ushered into a waiting car after locals began yelling their disapproval of the PM.

"You won't be getting any votes down here buddy," one resident can be heard yelling.

"Who votes Liberal around here? Nobody."

Another can be heard referring to the recent Sydney Harbour New Year's Eve fireworks display, which the PM watched from his government residence at Kirribilli.

"Go home to Kirribilli. Why won't that burn down?" another local yelled.

"I don't see Kirribilli burning after the fireworks."

The handshake thing was very odd, and a bit creepy. Why force physical contact with someone who clearly doesn’t want to reciprocate, particularly in a highly charged environment?

Being told off by his ‘minder’ (or whoever the other bloke in the hat was) directly after she vented her frustration was also unnecessary.

He has no empathy - zero emotional intelligence. Scotty from Marketing is just spin, lies and gimmicks.

This is why i didnt have a big deal with him being on holiday. The emotion is still far to high, he shouldn't have even been there yesterday.

Nothing good was going to come from that visit...he wasn't going to be able to make the promises they wanted right there and then.

In fairness to him how was he meant to answer 'You only sent 4 trucks because we dont have money like Sydney' i dont know much about the RFS/CFS but from what i understand he doesn't pick the locations that the CFS respond to.

Also not sure what answer he is expected to give to '**** off boomer'.

Personally i think Morrison needs to be judged on what decisions he makes in the next 12 months regarding this.

Combination of people who didnt want him there with bloke who has low emotional intelligence equals reciepe for disaster. Not sure why that location was picked to be honest.

I liked ScoMo more than Dodgy Bill.
But his lack of leadership around the bushfires will be his downfall.
The Bushfires started well before he went on holidays. It would have been unfortunate for his family to postpone the holiday, but he signed up for this job.

Would cost something but they are already being paid. Other than train I’m not sure what they do (no disrespect I just don’t know). How many available Army personal would there be, probably thousands

Army is formed to protect the country, I think this is something that needs to be taken care of

They could be involved in logistics

But the idea of them being on the end if a fire hose is not what they are trained to do

Army is doing logistics, dozers cutting firebreaks and Blackhawks doing firespotting and general cartage from what I have read on other forums.

Article makes a couple of errors and essentially omits several key points:

- Morrison ignored NSW fire chiefs who warned of unprecedented fire danger.
- Ignored calls for new water bombers (National coordinating body presented business case 18 months ago, Labor made election commitment 9 months ago)
- failed to seek international help (US Forest Service has 8 water bomber converted C130s that would have been available within 24 hours)

He stood up in his presser and lied again today, suggesting that lack of hazard reduction and arson were to blame (peddling facebook conspiracy theories essentially) and continues to live in his climate science denial bubble.

His incompetence and apathy is rightly being condemned.

So admitting all of that earlier and granting the various funding submission approvals would have prevented this? People who believe that are the deluded ones! Fires have occurred for thousands of years, influencing science is not going to stop a fire.

Not prevention, but mitigation through action as highlighted in my original post.

And catch up, global warming is exacerbating fire frequency and intensity. 20 years ago CDF ADM Chris Barrie told the Howard Govt. that climate change would pose a national security issue for which we would need to prepare for and in 2007, the IPCC released a report that said climate change would increase Aus fire risk. This isn't new news.

Never fear though, Scotty from Marketing has used taxpayer money to make an LNP ad telling everyone what a stand-up job he's doing.

Nevermind the fact that party-political advertising leveraging ADF support to civil agencies fighting bushfires is a clear breach of the reciprocal non-partisanship convention applying to both the ADF & MPs.
