Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

Lol, that article is from 2013. Here is peer reviewed science from 2019:

Climate Change Increases the Potential for Extreme Wildfires

Pyrocumulonimbus (pyroCb) wildfires cause devastation in many regions globally. Given that fire‐atmosphere coupling is associated with pyroCbs, future changes in coincident high index values of atmospheric instability and dryness (C‐Haines) and near‐surface fire weather are assessed for southeastern Australia using a regional climate projection ensemble. We show that observed pyroCb events occur predominantly on forested, rugged landscapes during extreme C‐Haines conditions, but over a wide range of surface fire weather conditions. Statistically significant increases in the number of days where both C‐Haines and near‐surface fire weather values are conducive to pyroCb development are projected across southeastern Australia, predominantly for November (spring), and less strongly for December (summer) in 2060‐2079 versus 1990‐2009, with future C‐Haines increases linked to increased 850‐hPa dewpoint depression. The increased future occurrence of conditions conducive to pyroCb development and their extension into spring have implications for mitigating these dangerous wildfires and urbanizing fire‐prone landscapes.

It's been a tough day for you - Scotty from Marketing finally admitting in his presser that CC and bushfires have a link. I guess you'll have to start towing the party line huh.

Social Media is a binfire of fake news (Greens Party prevented Hazard Reduction) and whack conspiracy theories (NSW fires are coordinated arson attack to bring in a reign of socialism), but venting about an inept PM is a disgrace?

If our esteemed traditional fourth estate wasn't just a bunch of stenograph journalists writing LNP press releases as news and instead held MPs accountable for things they do and say, maybe people wouldn't feel the need to speak up (has Alan Jones called for Scotty from Marketing to be put in a chaff bag and thrown out to sea yet?).

Inept? In your opinion of course.

He has been PM for 7 months, way too early to make that call. And he is PM cause the Australian people voted him in...........7 months ago.

Yeah, a lot of people are confusing the Greens Party with the "greenies" who stopped the hazard reduction in the Gippsland

I remember it was about 6 or 7 years ago I was driving through Chain of Ponds & people we're arguing about doing the hazard reduction there because it would kill too many spiders & snakes. I rang the Leon Byner program (as did a lot of people) & said that if they don't do it & a fire goes through, more than just the spiders & snakes would be killed. Sure enough, the Sampson flat fire went through & destroyed all around Chain of Ponds.

While those local residents were ignorant to do so, the area that was left would be less than 1% of the area cleared for Hazard Reduction in Gippsland.

A Forest Fire Danger Index (FFDI) is calculated using a McArthur Meter. It goes from 0-100, where 100 was based on the worst fire conditions ever. FFDI is combined with slope and fuel load to predict fire behaviour. In recent years, the max of 100 has been far exceeded, and they’ve had to redo the model to add the new rating of catastrophic. Typically the relationship to fuel load was linear, however, currently where fuel load had a strong influence under old conditions, it doesn't under new extreme conditions. ie. more Hazard Reduction might not stop catastrophic fires and there are examples in NSW now where fires swept through recently burnt areas without slowing down.

Never said I was defending him, just giving him a chance, I don't really care who our PM is but they all deserve at least to get out of the honey moon period to be judged over a decent period of time, lets all remember it doesn't matter who you are we are all human and all make mistakes.

From the outside looking in he hasn't handled this well, but I think it has been overstated significantly.

I'm sh!t at predicting how good someone will be as a PM. Voted for Kevin07 coz he impressed me, felt he was quite down to earth. Thought Julia would be good as our 1st female PM. When Shorten was overseeing the Beaconsfield mine collapse I thought he would make a good pollie. Thought Turnbull would be good also as he was a left leaning Liberal.
The problem I have with both major parties is they have factions fighting amongst themselves & undermining their own non preferred leaders.

You can believe both. CC not directly causing them as your article points out, but will increase the intensity and frequency of conditions that lead to them.

100% agree with this bloke other than his use of the word “back burn”. Including that I am not a climate change denier; I’m just not caught up in the hysteria of climate alarmism.
The Chief Scientist Alan Finkel was asked if the world was to reduce its carbon emissions by 1.3 per cent, which is approximately Australia’s rate of emissions, what impact would that make on the changing climate of the world. His response was that the impact would be virtually nothing but immediately continued by explaining that doing nothing is not a position that we can responsibly take. Again; I find that reasonable. I just do not believe in draining a lake to catch a fish. We bought a hybrid Camry before Christmas.

As Cracka quoted Q’s response to David Packham’s opinion, I’ll read the quoted research later as I have to catch a plane.

Yes, had a great day yesterday thanks. Avoided all the hysteria. Spent it with the family.
Had dinner with some friends just back from KI. Not good over there.

It's worth noting he is a lawyer (not a scientist) and makes several errors in his blog (including suggesting that no backburning - he means hazard reduction - has taken place this millenium, which is an extraordinary piece of misinformation).

He does start to make some good points about farmers being locked out of grazing land, however, it wasn't necessarily 'greenies' responsible for that. At the birth of the Kyoto protocol it was the Howard government who decided to use changes to LULUCF (by making farmers give up grazing land without compensation) to mathematically lower emissions. It was a nice accounting trick that allowed other sectors to continue to increase their emissions.

Government buried climate risk action plan

A federal government plan to prepare for the dire effects of climate change-related natural disasters was left to gather dust in the Department of Home Affairs for 1½ years before catastrophic bushfires hit last month.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework warned the changing climate was exposing the country to natural disasters on ‘‘unimagined scales, in unprecedented combinations and in unexpected locations’’.

It warned more and more people and assets would be exposed to these disasters, with essential services – including power, water, telecommunications and financial services – particularly vulnerable.

‘‘As a result, the cost of disasters is increasing for all sectors of society – governments, industry, business, not-for-profits, communities and individuals,’’ the report warned.

Bridget McKenzie effectively steals taxpayer money and funnels it into marginal seats before the election:

https://www.anao.gov.au/work/performance-audit/award-funding-under-the-community-sport-infrastructure-program

The Minister’s Office drew upon considerations other than those identified in the program guidelines, such as the location of projects, and also applied considerations that were inconsistent with the published guidelines. It was this assessment process that predominantly informed the Minister’s funding decisions, rather than Sport Australia’s process. This resulted in the assessment advice to the Minister being inconsistent with the approved program guidelines.

She should be sacked. And another example of why we need a federal ICAC.

Not true, but missing the point. Without a federal corruption watchdog, it is the government of the day who is judge & jury. If she was a State minister she would be facing a corruption inquiry.
