Losing roughly $8m a year, is that right?

Not sure of the actual amount but I believe you are in the ball park

Would sound about right given its size and requirements.

Former Richmond player Daniel Jackson has been appointed to the role of Adelaide’s Leadership Development Manager.

Jackson played 156 AFL games and spent six years in the Tigers’ leadership group, along the way winning the Club Best and Fairest.

He also claimed the inaugural AFL’s Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award in recognition of his commitment to the mental health and wellbeing of young people through his involvement with a number of charity and community-based organisations.

Since retiring as a player in 2014, he has a strong and proven track record of working with sports and corporate professionals to optimise performance with a focus on leadership, purpose and resilience.

Jackson has also run workshops, covering a range of areas such as managing performance stress, at secondary schools in London, Melbourne and Adelaide. His diverse and successful background also includes serving as an AFL Europe Commissioner.

His appointment follows the Club announcing it would create a full-time leadership position after completing a thorough review of the football department at the end of last season.

Jackson, who will report to Crows Head of Football Adam Kelly, will oversee and facilitate leadership development and training for players across the AFL, AFLW and SANFL teams, as well as football department staff.

Kelly said Jackson, who holds a Masters of Science, Performance Psychology from the University of Edinburgh, would play a role in supporting the Club’s key leaders in strengthening a positive and engaging environment.

“Dan is a highly motivated individual with a diverse and relevant background working with organisations both here in Australia and abroad,” Kelly said.

“He is held in high regard by everyone we have spoken to within the AFL industry, as well as his corporate clients, for his ability to coach individuals on their leadership capability and traits.

“The way in which he can support leaders in bringing together teams of people to optimise performance is also important.

“He will be a valuable resource and support for all of our leaders in the football department and broader Club.”

Jackson, who is currently working in London, is looking forward to starting with the Crows in March.

“After spending the last five plus years overseas working in and around high-performing teams and organisations, I have seen time and time again that sustainable success is built on putting good people in an environment where they can flourish,” Jackson said.

“Having met with Nicksy and Adam, as well as speaking to a number of others at the Club, I am very confident that Adelaide is on the right path and I am really excited to play a part in that journey.”

Adelaide has secured a key signing with the talented and versatile Wayne Milera Junior agreeing to a five-year contract extension.

Milera is an important part of Adelaide’s list rejuvenation, having been selected as a first round draft pick and playing 60 AFL games since his debut in 2016.

Crows General Manager of List and Strategy Justin Reid said Milera would play a major role both on and off the field over the next five years and beyond.

“He is an outstanding young footballer but most importantly a young man of high character,” Reid said.

“Wayne is an emerging leader who is eager to help others and he is determined to make a positive contribution, not just inside our Club but in the broader community.

“We look forward to seeing him continuing to develop as both a player and person in the years to come, and we are committed to helping him realise his potential.”

Milera said the positive environment and strong friendships with team mates were key factors in him agreeing to a long-term deal.

“I am working on my leadership and want to improve in that area so I will keep building and setting a good example,” Milera said.

“We have a really talented bunch of guys and it’s an exciting time, and I definitely want to be part of the team success that is ahead of us if we keep working hard.”

He's made me eat my words a little, becoming a good player. May go on and become very good.

Good time to be an Adelaide player looking for a contract, they will be wanting some stability for the next 3-5 years, good time to be putting the hand out of bigger, longer deals, they don't want anyone walking out any time soon.

Whilst he is a good player I wouldn’t sell the farm to keep him. He isn’t a game winner IMO

Im guessing but perhaps he was willing to take a less $$'s for a longer term and Crows saw it as a good deal to lock away and can work other contracts around this long term deal.

Im one who has watched a fair bit of the Crows in the last few years and i have always wondered when will he take a game apart. Has been switched down back but for me he doesnt hurt you with his posessions. Look at Jetta from the Eagles and he can really hurt sides from half back with his speed and foot skills. Just not sure id give him 5 years. But hey im not in the inner sanctum and they must really rate him

I'm sure he'll release the full details upon retirement from the game.
