AFL Bushfire Fundraiser - Vic vs The Rest

Talk on the national game

If anyone is expecting a brutal State of Origin contest like yesteryear (e.g. Martin Leslie and Gary McIntosh) then you will be disappointed. It will end up like the NBA allstars game, with minimal defensive tactics deployed. I'm ok with that considering the cause. Vics playing the rest seems logical to me and I can guarantee it will be a sell out. Maximum of 3 players per team, so some very good players will not be there.

They all say they will play now, but lets wait and see when it comes to the crunch who puts their hand up. With the 3 player rule it will be easy for players to miss it.

No problem with the game, the concept and the cause its raising money for.

But imo slightly disrespectful to the greats gone that they are marketing as a version of State of Origin.

This IS NOT SOO, it's an All Star Game

I hope they raise millions and an All Star Game is perfect for what their trying to achieve but this should not go down in the history books as being a SOO game.

Jesus H, never thought SA Footy would be infiltrated by the modern day scourge of being offended by everything.

It's a fundraiser for people who have lost family, lost their homes, lost everything and you're complaining about the terminology used to describe it?

Get over yourselves.

Everyone who mentioned the change of name has prefixed it with it’s a great thing that is being done.
I don’t think a discussion on changing the name diminishes any of that.

Great initiative by the AFL which will raise plenty.

You try and take the moral high ground at people who question the terminology of the event. But abusing posters on a forum about this topic is all ok in your book. Seriously mate ?? Time and a place...

More everyone do as I say but not as I do attitude from the king of it.

Oh and Well done AFL/AFLPA I hope you raise millions for this great cause.

See it’s really not that hard Genius.

SA's side looks quite embarrassing.
All stars v Vic next best thing but not ideal.
Great cause though, so hopefully a good crowd.

Doesn’t it just, very rank.
I remember when it was the big 3 states and then a composite side made up between Qld, NSW & Tas, we’d finish bottom if they tried that now.

I don’t want to see a return of SOO, it will never be the same as the 80’s, watching all the best running around on the same park for such a cause though is very appealing, I don’t even care if they go a bit easy on the tackling etc. it will only make the flow and skills very exquisite.

I don't think anyone expects that. I reckon a minimum of defensive tactics is just fine. We are going to be awash and that sort of stuff soon enough. It will be good for the players to stretch their legs and show off their skills. If there is less defensive running, I wonder if goalkicking accuracy will increase? I'm not a footballer but I reckon it would be harder to kick straight if you are stuffed from running side to side to free up some rare space in the forward 50. Dunstall and Lockett....lead, mark, goal...1000.

One thing is for certain. We'll see something cringey from Dangerfield before, during or after the event.
