I see if you win you should finish 2nd, lose you miss the 4. Whats the finals set up? 1v2 and 3v4 with a prelim final?

Yeah your correct.

It's the SANFL system with only 4. 1v 2 get a double chance, whilst 3 v 4 play an elimination. Winner of 1 v 2 straight into the GF, the loser plays the winner of 3 v 4. Highest ranked team gets home finals.

I've never seen this system used in cricket before but tbh it works pretty well and gives serious meaning to all minor round games as each spot in the fourth has added value.

Is the Prelim on the sunday or does the winner of 1v2 have to have a week off? That would be the downside to it, especially with no one playing the week before finals, that's just ludicrous, crickets a game you want to keep playing

Week off.

Whilst i share your sentiment about not wanting to have a week off my understanding is historically the side straight through to the GF has won more often that not anyway. Last year it wasnt the case but over a two year period we did have a 50/50 win record against Lower North so it wasn't as big an upset as many may have thought.

Who ever gets in to the GF the hard way this year will win it imo.
Having a week off, then win a semi, week off, then play a GF is to disruptive to maintaining any sort of form

Yeah but i still think its fairer than a 1 v 4 elimination semi and the top side is chasing runs in a one off final where one bad over and their whole season is done.

Definitely is fairer, agreed there.
They should play the prelim final on the Sunday after the semi on the saturday

hehehehe, thats why we lost to the 7th placed side on both occasions this year. Great thinking.

In all seriousness it was mentioned by some Blyth players we would be the first team ever under this finals format to win it from third if we can.

Blyth have made the finals for the first time since the 1960's apparently.

Lower North should win in a canter.

I'd love to see the Bulldogs pull off a drought-breaker for so many long suffering blokes who fronted up week in, week out for the best part of a decade without any success. Got some good kids in the side but I've seen them collapse from match-winning positions to lose far too often. Game against Sevenhill a few weeks back was a classic example.

Both games against us they collapsed, first game of the year they were 1/100 all out 160-170.

Our advantages is that i think we have the best bowling depth, including Lower North so we have the ability to keep teams to low scores if we can get down to batters 5-6-7 early enough.

We are quietly confident, especially after last years finals. A more in depth look would also show all our loses this year came when we had at least 2 first team players out. We will be at full strength for the entire finals series. Blyth will not have leading run scorer Will Pratt available.

Side note

Sevenhill and Blyth were not very happy that Brinky and Clare were able to bring in association players from other comps further north that had byes for the last game of the year.

Strong belief there needs to be some form of cut off point.

Rumours are rife that Auburn/Mintaro have been approached by Gilbert Valley informally about joining them in the BLCA, and Lower North strongly considering a move south too.

They have always had some talent but by their own admission were a social team who just so happened to play cricket.

Ben Pratt divides opinions at time but he has done a great job this year turning Blyth into an ultra competitive side.

Blyth do a great job and still manage to get two teams on the park every week despite a population of 300 people.

Most likely true, in saying that they would want to pick up some players unfortunately they are not even really competitive in this comp despite having arguably the best batter in the comp.

Blyth are also looking, more in the western direction but they are open to any moves.

Rumours thought Burra, and Redhill are looking at coming to Stanley comp.

Personally i dont think the Stanley comp in its current existence will still be around in 2-3 years. I know if the deck of cards start falling Sevenhill will most definitely move on in one direction or another. Far too strong and proud a club to not have two sides getting playing cricket.

I think what happy hawk means is Gilbert Valley are looking at possibly combining with Auburn/Mintaro. GV have lost their thirds side this season and are short on A1’s players. Mitchell, Allen and Edwards would compliment their A1 team well. The rest of the Bullants team would filter through their seconds and also help get their thirds back on their feet. Geographically it would make sense also, given the close proximity of Auburn and Saddleworth.

I also believe that quite a few Lower North cricketers are now wasted in the Stanley comp given it’s decline. The only thing holding it back from joining the BLCA is the travel factor.

Interesting times ahead and still plenty of water to go under the bridge before any of this happens.
