Another year has passed, better technology yadda yadda. Looking at pulling the trigger for our short term rental holiday home down Port Noarlunga South. Probably looking at standard size and also thoughts on batteries? Being a holiday rental we'd expect tenants to be out most of the day but home at night and always having the air conditioner cranking, so battery may be a good idea.

Anyone have any good ideas or seen good deals out in the new year?

I finally took the plunge once I'd moved into a house not surrounded by a forest of Stringy Barks:

- 28 Sunpower (flexible) panels - nominally 9.1kW, (mains are 3-phase)
- Fronius Inverter which reports production via a website to my phone and/or my laptop.
- Battery ready - all quoters said wait for battery technology to improve further before fitting one. (Given we use a combustion heater in the winter nights, and tend to be home by day.)

Operational since midday February 6th.
Nominally by app I've saved 285 kg of CO2, eqivalent to 7 trees or driving a car 1898km, and earned $96.55 from feed ins by today.

Output has been fluctuating depending on cloud cover but highest transient production rate figure I've noticed so far was 8.28kW.
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

Hey Boon, are you happy with your solar? How much did the battery cost?

Im thinking its time to pull* the trigger myself on solar.

FWIW we had 34 Canadien panels (10.2 kW) and 8.2 kW Fronius inverter $8,250. No battery.
As we had an existing system, for the remainder of the first bill period, we still received the 58c feed in tariff we were on.
Went from $1K bill to $1K in credit. Doubtless there will be a huge correction on next bill as feed in is now at 11c.
Fronius software is very good, live output monitoring etc.

Did you guys end up going ahead with your install?
I'm thinking about getting a 3kw system as we're low energy users.
I apologise.

The Tesla app is very cool, to be able to see and manage your power usage is excellent, in 4 weeks so far we have achieved 51% self powered which I think is good considering its Winter and we have had some shitty weather.
