Who’s going to watch that shit?

Is that the game where you run forward with the ball but then throw it backwards?

I think so.

Having said that I’m going to the state of origin game here.
Only to catchup with mates and drink piss as I have zero interest in the game.

There probably won't be a game :(

A lot of the players such as Patrick Dangerfield bleat on that they want shorter seasons and when it comes they bleat they want 22 games.

What they want is the same money for less effort.

I'm staggered they're playing, simply staggered.

Every major sporting code around the world has done their risk management and decided the risk simply outweighs the reward.

How or why the AFL have decided to commence the season beggars belief. Finding it hard to get my head around the process.

Yeah whilst i believe some of this is all an over reaction i cant believe the AFL are going to play.

Proving even further the AFL is no more than a glorified WWE using sports entertainment to form a billion dollar business. I wouldn't of thought it would have taken much pressure from Channel 7 to get the AFL across the line.

You would imagine the next TV rights contract will be astronomical with the inflated figures from tv ratings that will happen.

Good luck with it ever happening but I would love to see an entity set up that controls the game of football and the AFL runs it's league similar to the FA - EPL set up in English soccer.

The AFL have clearly shown they don't have the games best interest in mind when making decisions.

Small businesses are taking a hit maybe the players should too.
At least the senior players on good coin anyway.

$600k a year down to $480k won’t send them broke.
The AFL and clubs made a rod for their own back when they started stuffing around with the TPP and offering front or back ended contracts, deferred payments etc.
I can understand people asking for a 20% cut across the board but with so many different contract structures it’s near on impossible. If I’m in the final year of a back ended contract there is no way I’m giving up 20% of my pay

Then you'd be a greedy prick!

Yep, absolutely spot on.

Posted last night the lengthy delay made me think it would be called off

Ridiculous situation that they are playing and above every other sport around the world, sheer arrogance!

How so?
Let’s just say I’m on a $2m contract over 5 years and the club comes to me and says we are in TPP strife and instead of taking $400k a year can you help us out and take $200k each year for the next 4 years and $1.2m in your final year when we are better placed. So you agree to do that and you have taken the lower wage for 4 years and then in the final year the AFL tell you they want to cut 20% off $1.2m I’m telling you to get stuffed and I don’t care if that makes me greedy or not.
The AFL and the clubs created the mess it’s up to them to fix it

Having said that, didn't the F1 GP get called off 90 minutes prior to the first practice lap session?

Major difference is majority of overseas sports have the $$$ to get through a period like this, they are well established and no doubt have set up significant future funds that they can draw on. A lot of their sports being played indoors doesn't help either.

Footy is facing extinction as its income is so significantly tied to its TV deal. No TV, no $, no industry.

Do we want that?
