Tinfoil hat time..

Oct 11 - China and US reach tentative agreement on trade deal.
Dec 1 - Believed first Coronavirus case
Dec 13 - China and US agree to new trade deal to put end to ongoing 2 years trade war.

China - appeared to have recovered from this and back to business as usual.
Russia - only 147 confirmed cases, zero deaths.. have just played a major hand in crashing the oil market and can sustain at ~$20.. Also China's friend.
India - one of the most heavily dense populations in the world, and largest, most like in poverty stricken conditions, only 169 confirmed cased and 3 deaths... Also Russia's friend.

China export something like $418 billion to the US annually, whilst if the oil price stays low will cripple the US shale industry and cripple the countries economy.. which will impact the US ability to trade.

Everyone hates the US.. could this whole thing be a deliberate ploy from China/Russia?

Is it a coincidence that this is all unravelling at the same time?

Airlines are a very dicey proposition at the best of times, contrary to many people’s thoughts they don’t make money hand over fist and run at a very low profit most even in good times. For a nation the size of Australia though they are vitally important and need to be kept afloat. I’m all for bailing them out but they need to have strict guidelines attached to them

If you have been directly effected by the Covid-19 with loss of hours, income in your business etc then contact your bank directly & they will work with you to assist with mortgage payments anyway possible I can guarantee that.

If they were to freeze all mortgage payments for 6 weeks for everyone Australia wide I'd imagine we would see plenty of redundancies & people being let go very quickly in financial institutions.

I'm sure the banks could wear it for 6 weeks mate. It's not like they're writing off those payments altogether. Just suspending them until people get back on track. The benefits to everyone would be massive and the banks could take credit for it all.
So you've seen everything have you?

Working within the industry obviously distorts my view.
Yes I agree fees like those you have mentioned are terrible but do you really think airlines are making a profit flying $280 return from Adelaide to Bali or $49 Adelaide to Melbourne?
Most domestic flights just break even or slight profit thanks to heavy taxes and airport fees.
It’s a real tough industry

Virgin would need to make a profit first but yes as I said I would put strict requirements on any handouts such as paying it back or paying tax

I love a conspiracy theory as much as the next person.

I'm not sure if your theory is the most plausible but the ploy from China thing is completely plausible.

Everyone was worried about Anthrax after 9/11.

China has just proven it can cripple the world with this bio-security risk. Kim Jong Un is probalby wondering why he hadn't thought of it first ;)

All the more reason to rely less on their trade. really.

I would actually be putting more into Super at this time if I was still working.
Although the perception is that you are paying in to lose money, you would be buying units at a discounted price and will benefit when the market improves.

Apparently QANTAS isn't offering refunds, only credits and vouchers. Will be interesting to see if the government step in on that one.

This is where are LOT of people are going to lose out.

A lot of cruise liners and the airlines are only offering credits - okay, sounds fine but if all these guys go broke - there's NO cover under any travel insurance for bankruptcy of travel providers, travel agents and tour operators.

Yep. Not a huge issue given the amount we have already spent but in May our 1 year old turns 2 and in September our 11 year turns 12. If we end up going after September the cost to go is going to be thousands more given the 12 year old will be an adult ticket and the 1 year old will have to have her own seat as well.

All fun and games.

P.s Footy Chicks advice throughout this process has been invaluable and saved possibly endless hours on hold on the phone in what is already a stressful situation.

SAFooty community is awesome even if we all have differing opinions views.
