Wishful thinking that companies won't be trading with China when this is all over.
While its cheaper to buy from china we will still trade with them in order to make bigger profits.

We've all now had a huge reminder that they have zero global community responsibility.

Every pandemic, other than Ebola, has its origins in China and they'll never change.
They eat tiger dicks, cause they think it makes them braver and more virile.
That culture is totally ingrained in their society and will never change.

In a perfect world, stop all imports and exports to China and put them back in the dark until they clean up their act!
They should be made to pay reparations, like Germany had to, for bringing the whole world to a halt.
Bring them to their knees until the pull their #$cking heads in!

I just retrieved an e-mail out of my junk file, from a Chinese company, offering to sell my company face masks.

They got a sharp reply.

There was someone going round the Village SC Carpark last week putting flyers on all the car windows selling them for $2.50ea.

Nope.
Everyone is doing their bit and being patriotic currently but when push comes to shove finance dictates what people are willing to pay and most people won’t pay 20-30% extra for an Australian made car.
With the ridiculous wages being paid it just isn’t viable

But, the government is going to have to drive our economy through the roof and what better way than stopping/restricting cheap imports ( of all manner of things ) and manufacture them locally? A whole supply chain once again lives.

True but car manufacturing is just too costly in Australia. No one wants to pay top dollar for the garbage Holden and Ford were producing

Its an attitude shift in the buyer that we need.
That goes for all Australian products.
Every time you buy one you should be proud you are keeping your neighbour, your mate, your kids mate, in a job.

And the government will encourage us to buy local. It has to. We're currently around $200bn ( IIRC ) in stimulus packages deep.

I worry/wonder the long term impacts this event may have on our future as people if it goes for an extended period - like will social distancing, restricted trading hours/shopping hours become the norm? Will people stop shaking hands with people they see? Will people walk around with facemasks constantly? Will those who can continue to work from home more often? Will the younger generation lose valuable social interaction skills?

Well not every farmer but i get your point.

These *"ckers are fast becoming THE global bully that everyone's scared of.

Let's say the next pandemic that generates there wipes their population in half, or more....kills their economy and sends them broke.
They won't be importing bugger all then, and we certainly wouldn't be importing anything from them.
Same result.

I'm just saying its time someone stood up to them.

It's going to take us several weeks, if not months to adjust to this new normal that has been cast upon us and I think at the other end we'll have new behaviours that will stick with us for longer than we've been forced to do them.

Ie - if we can't shake hands for 12 months it will be years before it's seen as normal again, if ever.

Re face masks, no, this time next year we'll be getting 'flu and 'rona vaccines.

Because they can buy Barley elsewhere.... no problems we can collude with whomever we like, price remains firm.

As someone who is involved in importing from China I can tell you it's exactly how they work!

I ran in to an old footy mate I haven't seen in ages at the supermarket.
We both went to shake hands, then kinda did an awkward pull back like we had shit on our hands.
Must've looked funny. We both had a giggle about it.

IMO the government could do something really simple to assist the mental health of people for the next month and thats extend daylight savings for another month. I know Im enjoying the hour after dinner, whether it be a walk, ride or kick of the footy with the kids or just muck around in the garden. This helps me massively with what is going on after a tough day at work. I know that will make the mornings darker for longer but give me the daylight at the end of the day every time.

I'm finding motivation very low, being dark still at 7am isn't helping.
