As most of you are aware the GSFL held a meeting of all clubs last night regarding the future of the 2020 football season.
It is the leagues intention to commence the season on Saturday the 11th of July from where we will play 9 rounds and a full final series completing the season in early October.
Unfortunately, there are so many variables that a numerous number of things must fall into place to make this possible. The main one is that there are not any major outbreaks in the community of the virus as we go forward into the first stages of less restrictions, so we urge all our players and members to adhere to the rules in place.
So as of next week, training will return to the oval under the mandated protocol B rules as provided by the SANFL and State Government.
The main restrictions are
1. Only 30 players per session at training in groups of 10 players plus one coach per group, limited to 1/3rd of the oval each with no cross over or rotation.
2. No taping/massages or trainers
3. No use of change rooms
4. No spectators
5. No contact and maintain social distancing
6. Coaches and club officials must complete Covid-19 training as a matter of urgency.
There are many other requirements that revolve around hygiene etc that the club needs to get in place. If all goes well this stage will only last until the week of June 8th where we will move to the Stage C, with larger groups and contact etc
. Do not organise informal trainings at the oval, the fines for breaching rules can consist of 12 months jail or $50,000 (individual) $250,000 (club)
Should everything progress as outlined there is still a strong possibility that we will be playing with no crowds, or at best, no bar and limits on supporter access to clubrooms and viewing areas. There was much discussion regarding the financial implications of this and it was made clear that some clubs could not proceed under these circumstances. Therefore, there is much talk of there being a zero-salary cap for the shortened 2020 season. Other leagues have also made it clear that they are considering the same situation. Some local clubs have already broached this matter with their players with a favourable outcome.
