One of my old footy coaches had it. Didn't need to go to hospital, was cleared a couple of weeks ago

What is your definition of "flatten the curve"?

I always thought of it as stopping the increase in new cases per day.

Image

America has done this.

April 16th they hit a mammoth 4928 deaths.
April 18th 3770
April 22nd 2524
April 26th 2172
April 29th 2110

They clearly still have a substantial number of people falling off the perch each day, but to suggest they haven't stopped the exponential growth of the peak is inaccurate IMO.

NB: Obviously if your definition is to get within the capacity of the existing health system, then they'll never manage that as their existing health system was already cooked.

I agree that population growth is currently unsustainable and we need to do way more on this, but the spread of infectious diseases is controllable.

Help me out here Booney, I'm a little slow.

What does that have to do with respect to flattening the curve?

Cause their number of total cases is big they haven't stopped the exponential growth in daily cases?

My understanding would be that its a concern if someone has the flu and then contracts COVID, which would potentially more deaths. But how does the flu season cause more COVID cases?
It's winter, naturally these types of viruses survive the colder months better.

So that confirms my thoughts, it has nothing to do with the flu

I don't speak emoji so I don't know what your reply means.

To clarify, I'm saying that it's entirely within our power to avoid the spread of infectious diseases through social distancing, travel bans, personal hygiene, and 21st century medical science. Which is entirely what we're doing very successfully (so far) in Australia.

I disagree with the suggestion that it's inevitable that people should die from diseases just because there are a lot of us - although absolutely we should address overpopulation.

I'm not sure what is meant by 'mother nature' - if it's some sort of deity then you've lost me, but each to their own.

This is a nuanced issue, and we need to treat the planet better, but we can - and do - control the spread of diseases. Coronavirus is no different.

The rush is that the majority of posters on here seem to be alcoholics who still brag about how many drinks they have

For me, it's getting back to normality which often involves going to my local and catching up with friends and acquaintances and enjoying my time there. I'm not that much of a fan of sitting home doing **** all so I apologise if that offends anyone.
