Spargo wrote:We were at Oakbank around 25 years ago and they had jumped in Brisbane. We knew this because we had a Walkman with head phones but the on course speaker had cut out and the bookies weren’t near the tv screens. They’ve kept their odds up, the three of us were listening to this thing kick clear with 200m to go, look over and the odds are still up! We rush over and empty our pockets - every cent we had - and back this thing between the 2 bookies. We got $8 about it. When we went to collect, the penciller yelled out to the bookie “These are the c#nts that got on after the race”. The bookie was ropable, literally shaking with rage. He was spitting as he yelled at us. Called us every name in the book.
But he had to pay us ;)

Similar story abotu 10 years ago at the Balak Cup day and they had a bookie on its own in between all the tents, no screen anywhere, mate had his tranny* to his ear and the Sydney race had 200m to go and odds still up, he heard a horse got to the lead and chucked $200 on it, pity it didn't win  he was so caught up in getting the opportunity to get an easy win, we couldn't believe he 'just wait a few more seconds to make sure he knew what the winner was.

Me and 2 mates (one the same from the story above :) ) had my biggest win when we got the quaddie on Melbourne Cup day in 2008, I may have told the story on here back then, see if I can dig it up. Still got the ticket somewhere also.

SANFL has been good to me last 2 seasons, Had $300 on North at $13 in 2018 and $100 on Glenelg at $21 last year, I did lay both of them off to lock in profits though.

yep, we had one pick in each race, except the cup where we had 2 each, one mate didn't pick a winner but was very happy

It held on OK in the final 100m which to my untrained eye meant if it was given a bit of a breather in the mid stages it could have well won that
