Premier Steven Marshall says he is sitting down with hotels following suggestions the new rules regarding their reopening will “not really support many pubs to come back online”.
Mr Marshall says he thinks hotels will be “up and running early next month”, but he told FIVEaa Breakfast’s David & Will on Monday:



“Some states have moved ahead with indoor dining for 10. That’s pretty useless for just about any business in South Australia and even at 20 – which is what we’ve proposed from 8 June onwards – the industry is saying that’s not really going to support many pubs to come back online.

“We’re sitting down with them at the moment. They’ve been very proactive in trying to explain how they would deal with the risks. We want to get them up and running, we want to get cafes, restaurants, hospitality broadly up and running because we know it employs so many people in South Australia. But we’ve got to do it right.

“The last thing we need is to open up and then, like many other places around the world, four weeks later having to have lockdown reimposed. The cost of reopening a restaurant or a pub is massive. You’ve got to restock and then if you close down a couple of weeks later it’s a disaster. So we’re taking an approach which we believe will be sustainable.”
