The country’s chief medical officer has slammed the Crows and pretty much single handedly blamed them.

Adelaide's disastrous training session in the Barossa Valley raised doubts among the country's chief medical officers that the AFL could stick to the protocols required to minimise the spread of infection.

A line from the minutes of the Australian Health Protection Principal (AHPP) meeting on Monday, seen by The Age, read that the "AFL showed with the Barossa outing that they don't understand quarantine".

The AHPP advises the national cabinet on the level of restrictions required to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The minutes also state that all AFL players, along with NRL and rugby union players, who enter Queensland must have flu vaccinations unless they are medically exempted.

Since the Barossa incident - which led to Adelaide assistant Ben Hart being suspended and 16 players receiving suspended sentences - the AFL's job in getting the required exemptions from the South Australian government to have the Crows and Port Adelaide fly in and out of the state without serving the quarantine period has become much harder.

On Tuesday South Australia's deputy chief public health officer Chris Lease sent a letter to the AFL rejecting their protocols and asked the AFL to provide more information about their plans.

Sources have suggested the government required more detail on what the AFL proposed the clubs would do from the time they landed back into Adelaide after games to ensure they proposed no extra risk to the community in relation to the spread of coronavirus. SA's chief public health officer Professor Nicola Spurrier said she also wanted to know when the AFL proposed to play games.

Adelaide skipper Rory Sloane said he wasn't sure whether the club's actions had affected the thinking of the South Australian government in relation to the two clubs flying in and out of the state for games.

"In SA we have had a long period of time without too many cases, there has been one in about two weeks which is a great result for SA as a whole," Sloane said.

"I understand the reasoning around why we want to keep it safe and make sure we limit the spread of this virus because as we have seen in other countries it can spread really quickly.

"We own that this is a mistake on our behalf and we want to make sure the community learns from this and that we will take this very seriously."

He said if the fly-in, fly-out model was rejected he assumed players and staff will have the option of taking family into hubs if clubs from South Australia and Western Australia have to relocate to restart the season.

The AFLPA vice-president admitted he remained uncertain that moving into hubs would be necessary, a decision dependent on whether the SA and WA state governments allow their local AFL teams to fly in and out of the state without needing to undergo a 14-day quarantine.

Despite the hiccup the South Australian premier Steven Marshall hinted on Wednesday his government would be "happy to back" the AFL season relaunch if the league could show its plan was safe.

"We've got to put the wellbeing and safety of South Australians first, but we are going to sit down with the AFL and we are going to work out what the quarantine arrangements will be for our South Australian players if they are to fly out, play their game and then come back to South Australia," Mr Marshall said.

"Now this is not an easy task, there is a lot of complexity in that but we are prepared to sit down, and if it works out for South Australia then we are happy to back it."

Sloane said he expected there would be arrangements made to enable family members to accompany players or coaches into hubs if necessary.

"I'm presuming that would be the case. I'm not entirely sure yet. There is still so much up in the air ... I'm sure they would want to make that an option," Sloane said.

The Adelaide captain has an infant son and has expressed reservations about leaving behind his wife and child to relocate to a hub but said he was prepared to do what was required to get the competition running.

He acknowledged the Crows erred during their training session in the Barossa Valley when they broke social distancing rules and AFL requirements to train in groups of two.

He said the club was sharing the blame as a group.

"We clearly just made a mistake, you can't just pin this on one person," Sloane said.

"As a whole football club, not Ben Hart, not Tom Doedee, not anyone else, the whole footy club made a mistake. There were a couple of mistakes made and without going into it all it is silly to point the blame on one person."

The players are still in quarantine in the Barossa Valley but are training on their own and Sloane expects them to be out early next week.

Sloane said he was desperate to resume contact training but would be happy to start in groups of 10 if that was the first step towards playing games. He said he didn't think the Crows would still have players in quarantine when the green light for full-contact training was given.

Love all the hate towards SA/WA premiers because they want to keep their states safe from a virus that doesn’t have a vaccine and the VFL want clubs to play in the state with the most active cases? Lol
