I thought the Hub idea was 32 only? The rest can fly in if required.

Even if they have 40 up there 30 hanger on's is excessive, especially if you can share resources across all 4 teams up there (physio's, doctors, phych's, welfare etc)

Well then as long as the VIC clubs are restricted to only 32 total as well.

Davies say yesterday in a normal season they take 53 staff on interstate trips, this season they were cutting that to 46. I guess if you are staying for 6 weeks 70 is not excessive

So 10 up there play 10 v 10 scratchies and the 12 left here train in two groups of 6?

Can't see why not. All seems fair.

I love my footy but the inequity of the Victorian teams staying home with familiarity of facilities and venues makes this more corrupt than usual.

Is it the Victorian teams fault that the SA and WA governments have the strictest border laws in the country?

Without the state governments giving an exemption this was always going to happen

why not wait until we are free to travel country then??

Victoria, are still getting fresh new cases daily...yet their government proudly tell the country that restrictions are lifting....[emoji848][emoji848][emoji848]

There is still some chance that our borders won’t open for several months. The AFL and the clubs know that they absolutely must get some sort of season underway or there is a very real risk of financial ruin.
Hopefully by setting a start date and getting another couple of rounds completed we could see restrictions lifted and everything will be fine.

DISCLAIMER: I haven't really followed the announcements all that closely so someone may debunk this fairly quickly, but my understanding is as follows:

The Victorian sides won't play any extra home games this season.

The inequity comes that when they play their interstate away games, against 4 of the 8 interstate sides, they will be at "neutral" grounds. IE: When they play the WA or SA sides in Qld.

It all comes down to how long it takes for SA and WA to open up the boarders. Games are still 3 weeks away, and if we play the first 5 rounds against other interstate teams as a bit of a hub while the Vics all play each other, then that will give another two months and hopefully by then the boarders are more open.

If that does play out that way, the Vic sides won't get to realise any of that advantage, and the disadvantage to the WA and SA sides of playing their home games at a neutral ground will be largely offset by the fact that an equal number of their away games will also be at a neutral ground.

So overall, the AFL can actually minimise the impact of the use of neutral grounds if they group the first 5 or 6 rounds within their "victorian" and NSW/QLD hubs.

The only real winners if that happens is the two QLD sides who will play a number of away games in Qld still.

The suns can do with all the help they can get, the lions don't need the help, but i'm happy for them to have it. They might even sneak top 4 if things go really well for them.

Families can go but once there they must stay for the duration. No FIFO which would mean partners have to organise leave from work and children of school age would need to take a leave of absence.

Correct.... but i just assumed that he was so vocal before as he was representing all of the players as AFLPA President and not just giving his personal opinion on things that affect him.... silly me.

Was it the SA and WA teams fault that the Victorian Gov wouldn't let people train in groups of 10 last week?
