Do many grounds still turn into mud pits mid winter? Used to seem to be every second ground would be a bog back in the day, but I cant recall the last really muddy game I've been involved in.

We havent had a decent winter for a long time

Councils manage the grounds much better now than even 5 years ago. Gone are the days of councils just watering and cutting the oval.

Yes they do but lets wait until we have a wet winter before we laud them too much. Alot of their measures have been band-aid jobs, not solutions that address the core problems like soil type and grasses which are very costly to fix.
Dont get me wrong, Im no expert and what they have done is better than nothing and its good councils are starting to recognize the importance of good sporting facilities.
Its amazing what happens when 100% of the population can use them instead of 50%. Lot more votes in it for all forms of government

The Williamstown Oval would be a strange one hey Daisy? very picturesque but I could imagine it would get messy on a cold day.

Of course depends on the council, they have been very good down our way in recent years, turned some regular mud pits completely around, mainly via improved drainage and sowing of winter grasses.

Prob a little bias given my history but I rate Ingle Farm as one of the better places to watch footy, and the ground itself has improved a lot in recent years (perhaps due to lack of winter).

Outside deck that overlooks the oval, the new electronic scoreboard on the opposite side and the hills that surround which gives a good vantage point where ever you choose to go.. home change rooms are quality too.

Downside is a crap BBQ and limited canteen (although the hotdogs and Athelstone Bakery pies are pretty good) and parking can be tricky at times.

I'd probably have the same criticism as I've had on other grounds, I think a fence on the outer side would cap it off nicely.

Its easily the worst oval in the comp with the 2nd worst facilities (behind South Gawler)
It doesnt get above 6 degrees even with the sun out, its generally a bog, council has installed better drainage in the last 2 years, see how that goes. Teams have been known to get stuck inside the ground if it gets real wet, doesnt take long for the river to become unpassable.

Nah doesn't that I can recall, but the actual surface is ordinary + the big sandpit cricket pitch + multiple sports = multiple marked lines = annoying.

On the upside for Pulteney, all the mud does wonders for your complexion

I played at Mitchell Park for 2 years in the early 90s and thought that ground was fine. Not sure what you think is wrong with it.

we stay outside at half time if playing WCFC, its basically a shower cubicle with some benches..

Almost forgot about them, they're definitely a contender

I'm also going to give my dear friends the Raggies an honourable mention.(although that will change soon)

Change rooms are pretty squishy and oval gets rather boggy, that being said, they've made the best of their current situation by creating the massive verandah and bar/canteen/merch shed etc.. i think it's often been suggested that they're about the only club where you can't see the footy from their clubrooms.

Will look a ripper when the new build is finished though!
