Different circumstances. Port elected to join a comp that already had a black and white team. If Norwood chose to join the AFL I wouldn’t have an issue with Melbourne telling us to GAGF either.whufc wrote:I hate Port as much as the next bloke but the whole Guernsey fiasco from Collingwood is a joke.
If Man United and Liverpool can both wear red tops and become two of the biggest superpowers in global sports marketing history im sure Collingwood and Port can survive.
If anything it would probably just add fuel to their rivalry and be a great marketing tool for Collingwood to raise home attendance against a traditional smaller attending club.

Any new team joining the AFL has to come up with new colours

Do you really think Freo wanted to wear Purple, Red, White and Green [emoji23]The Bedge wrote:Jim05 wrote:Port elected to join a comp that already had a black and white team
WTF do colours really matter in the scheme of things?
Should be allowed to enter and pick whatever colours you like as long as you don't clash when you play similar sides.

Booney wrote:Collingwood President Allan McAlister’s letter to then Port Adelaide President Greg Boulton dated 1 September 1995.
“We at Collingwood are most grateful for Port Adelaide accepting it should enter the AFL with a change from its black-and-white colours and Magpie name which we hold dear to our hearts at Collingwood.
I will reiterate to our board that if the Port Adelaide Football Club should succeed at ranking higher than the Collingwood Football Club for three consecutive years in the AFL then our objections will be waived.”
Port Adelaide ranked higher than Collingwood on its first five consecutive years in the AFL from 1997 to 2001.
