Interesting that the NRL chose to stay with the full 40 minutes per half and the game has never looked quicker. The AFL brought in the interchange cap to open the game up as players become fatigued late in quarters, shortening the quarters has the exact opposite effect. If they want 16 minute quarters limit interchanges accordingly or reduce the bench to 3.
How often do sides kick 2 or 3 goals in "junk time" to break a game open? They're screwed now though, they can't change back to 20+ time on in the middle of the year.
