Good result for Norwood
They are 5th on the ladder and have already played last years premiers ...

How good is it have SANFL footy back!!

For us it was a case of the Good the Bad and the ugly!

Good: whethering the storm and the back six
Bad: some soft efforts that went against our standards from last year that let Norwood score easily in the 1st qtr
Ugly: losing our structures by getting to far under the ball so we could get beaten on the outside of the contest.

Great to play poorly but still win. Played like this Rd 1 last year but instead we lost by under a goal
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Poor game plan and players not punished for continually kicking blindly forward. Needs to make a statement and bench players no matter who they are

Round 1, players might need time to gel or get drilled on plan. I don’t disagree with what you’re saying, but give them 2-3 weeks to try and sort it before any drastic action is taken. Talia, Wilson and Bastinac might help improve things.
It’s been a constant for a couple of years. Our mids just blast it forward and we always pick out the spare man or 1 on 2.
Grigg, Panos both do it and I’d hate to be a forward at Norwood. You have Surman who can beat most 1 on 1 and yet we don’t give him a chance. Players need to be told it’s unacceptable and they will dropped off they continue to do it.

I’d imagine we’re instructed to build the play up as we rarely move it forward quickly, perhaps we’re not adept at switching modes. Hopefully we can improve that. Luke is very good in a contested marking situation but doesn’t offer much when the ball Hits the deck.

A lesser player of character would’ve walked after the way he got **** around 2013-15.

I’ve seen him pleading for a chance for a spot in the 1s back in the day.

To say I love him is an understatement. He’s a man of character!

One of Norwoods strengths is a major weakness. Baulderstone is good in the centre square rucks as umpires dont want to ping him for is tactics. After that the guy cant run and that takes Surman out of the forward lines as he rucks. Surman is very dangerous down forward as shown early.
Thoughts on Douglas' game ?

Great round of footy and too early to tell but it could be a close season.

Don’t think you’ve seen much of Baulderstone in recent seasons, he gets pinged regularly and it became a real issue 2 or 3 years ago. Your overall point is fair though, Bauldy is no good overhead where as Surman is.

I thought Douglas was close to our best, lead by example in terms of throwing his body into the contest. Quality game of footy (quality round actually from the bite I saw) for first hitouts. Far more entertaining imho than than the vast majority of AFL games thus far in 2020.

He may hold a record (I am guessing) as the only player to have an u/18, reserves and league premiership.

He hasn’t got a 2s flag, played in the 2013 Ressies GF that we lost to the Eagles

I have seen quite a bit of him and rarely see him pinged at the Centre bounces.
I thought these two teams looked the best from the games I saw. Long way to go.
JK ....I thought Douglas faded away after the first half. Norwood would easily have the most talented list and Bastinac has to come in. I wonder what made him come back ? Players arent being paid this season so good on him.

I disagree. I thought Nicholas Lange was exceptionally good. Best on ground IMO. I’ll be carefully watching his progress...

Are you taking the you know what?

I agree Nick was Central's best player but apart from Boyd and maybe Schiller the rest were pretty ordinary.
How often does a player from the losing side get 3 Magarey Medal votes. I predict Sturt will get all 3 votes or Maybe Nick will get a sympathy 3 rd best vote.

You said you took no positives out of the game. I said Nick’s performance was very positive.

Enjoy another year of mediocrity...
