He has more or less blamed the umpires. Said Hawthorn laid 69 tackles and didn't get one free kick. He reckons the game will open up more if the umps pay more holding the ball/incorrect disposal decisions. I'm not so sure. Chris Scott was also critical of the games look. Surely some of these coaches have to take responsibility. Geelong play a slow possession game and it's boring. Port, Brisbane and St Kilda are least trying to play fast attractive football.

I hate the way they keep changing the rules, and interpretations..... that said how about lengthening the kick minimum distance from 15 to 20 meters? Some kicks on the weekend were barely the 15 required. It will force more kicking to contests.

Agree wholeheartedly that Chris Scott plan is rubbish. The only time we look any good is when we revert back to Bomber Thompson of moving the ball quick.

Just go back to actually penalizing incorrect disposal, that’ll get the HTB count up significantly

Swings, roundabouts.

What did everyone think was going to happen after Richmond dominated 3 seasons with flat out move the ball forward at any cost football? To counter that game plan you need to keep possession of the ball, particularly in your own back half to avoid the much vaunted "ballistic" pressure the Tigers used for 3 years to win two flags. Of course the game was going to move in this direction.

Remember Roos and Sydney ruining football in the mid 00's and what happened next? Geelong changed the game with attack, good ball movement to key forwards and scoring was again in vogue.

Brisbane and Port are now trying to beat the Tigers game plan with long kicking and fast ball movement from defence with good execution across the midfield, both of these sides have recruited kids that can kick.

Yep agree with this, or better yet just pay the rule as it stands for 15m - the grass cuttings are 10m right? I think there are lots of examples of 10m or less kicks being payed as marks. This just allows time for teams to flood back.

THE ROUND five fixture is set to be flipped on its head with West Coast's clash with Richmond on Thursday night expected to be postponed due to a hardline stance from the Queensland government.

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in Victoria, Queensland health officials have held fears of the Tigers flying in to play the Eagles on Thursday night.

It would leave the West Coast-Richmond clash and fixtured Sydney-Melbourne game for Sunday to be split.

AFL.com.au understands people at the Tigers were on Monday morning preparing to tackle Melbourne this weekend, while officials at West Coast were expecting to play Sydney.

It is unknown when both matches will be played.

It is also believed people at Carlton and St Kilda have been informed to brace for their scheduled Saturday afternoon game at the MCG to move to the primetime Thursday night.

Both the Blues and Saints played on Saturday in round four, therefore would only face a five-day break by playing on the Thursday.

The AFL has been contacted for comment.

More to come

Moments ago....

The AFL has been forced to switch up its fixture for round five as Victoria’s coronavirus cases continue to spike, with nearly nearly 100 cases announced across the weekend.

Richmond were due to fly into Queensland to face West Coast on the Gold Coast this Thursday night.

But the Queensland government has resisted allowing the Tigers entry into the state, with ticket sales for the game frozen.

The Gold Coast-based Eagles are now expected to host the Sydney Swans, who will fly in from New South Wales, while the Tigers stay home to play Melbourne on Sunday.

The AFL is yet to confirm any changes, with reports circulating that either West Coast-Sydney or Carlton-St Kilda will take place on Thursday night.

It’s unclear what the state government’s position means for the Gold Coast Suns, who are fixtured to fly into Victoria to face Geelong on Saturday.

This is going to get very messy, there will end up being a two week recess so teams can travel then isolate, they will squeeze as many Melbourne based fixtures in as possible but the rest of the nation is running out of options to play each other.

Hearing it ain’t going to be great numbers today either. Think a lockdown is imminent and with some clubs having training facilities in hot spots there is going to be chaos
