For some reason Craig Balme’s name rings a bell, could be wrong though.

I always thought for some reason it was Macca who was the first ever sent off.

Was it Adam Richardson from West in a knock-out final against Norwood? Seem to remember a game around then that just got unnecessarily out of control.

Not sure if I’m thinking of the same game, but there was a knockout final between the two clubs which Norwood had safely in their keeping and inexplicably Dale Fleming belted Richo with about 5-10 minutes to play and duly copped a suspension and his finals series was over. Was one of the weirder acts of ill-discipline I can recall from my mob.

Perhaps that started or re-ignited it. I didn't know about that incident, but in the last quarter West were being beaten easy and wanted to belt a few blokes out of frustration or sore-losers.

Has there ever been a player sent off in the SANFL ?

Craig Balme was definitely sent off first before Macintosh.
Macintosh was sent off in a Friday night game against North in 1998.
One of the Caruso brothers from West was sent off in the 2012 Grand Final. It was in the final few moments of the game and it was hardly noticed by any of the media.

Sam Jones, early in the last quarter of EF 2001, he got reported twice in five minutes (I think)

Later in that quarter, southern end...I remember Richardson flinging Fleming into the fence, assuming as a result of that ill-discipline.

Brett Mancini was sent off in a match, as well.

I remember a bloke getting sent off after connecting with a good punch, thought it was Ben Watkins. Reckon it was going to be his last game so he was determined to go out literally with a bang and Westies we're getting a touchup.

Yep that was the game Spelly and exactly where the action happened. Knowing the type of player Flem was I’m sure he had his reason(s) as it was out of character. Dumb though, think we got rolled by Ports the following week.

19/9/1981
1st semi final
SA.... 0-1...2-8......3-11...6-14
NW...7-8...8-10..12-16..19-19

NWs quarter time score was the same amount of points as SA final score 7-8 + 6-14

On the other side of town there was the Victoria Park race meeting
In race 5 the horse that ran second was Blue And White
It ends up that 2 Blue and Whites ran 2nd on the same day !

In the same race
R5-5 was a horse called Mighty Magpie, it ran 5th , the same season PA was 5th after the 5th round
