Stokes has turned into a brilliant batter over the past 12 months. Really puts a price on his wicket and reaps the rewards latter in the innings.

Just needs his team to bat first....has a remarkably poor 1st innings record when England bat second
Innings 1 of match - 38 innings, 1938 runs @51.00, 8 Centuries, 6 Half Centuries, 1 duck
Innings 2 of match - 27 innings, 624 runs@23.11, 0 Centuries, 6 Half Centuries, 7 ducks

Interesting stat, pretty bizarre really. Would like to think with his new found consistency that would change.

Real handy for the Windies after England's big first innings that soaked up alot of time effectively batting the Windies out of any chance of winning and now you'd think the Windies will just try and draw the match if there's no rain today.

Playing for a draw is the Windies ONLY option from this position. Will be a good test for them as in the past they've put in the odd good performance like the 1st test only to go missing again straight after. Batting 2 days for a draw isn't as easy as it sounds especially for an underwhelming top order that the Windies have. To be a respected team at Test level again they need to draw this Test and then either win or draw the 3rd Test. If they don't do that then the 1st Test win was just a flash in the pan like their other spasmodic test wins have been over the last 25 years.

You mention his new found consistency and the stats back that up. His promotion to number 5 has paid dividends for England, he's had 27 innings at 5 with an average of 49.80 with 4 hundreds and 5 fifties. At 6 he averages 37.28 from 74 innings with 6 hundreds and 14 fifties.

In the last 12 months he's averaged 55.66 in 23 innings with 4 hundreds and 4 fifties.

Clear skies in Manchester today, can England take 19 wickets in 2 days? Night-watchman Joseph has already been dropped by Stokes.

Windies 3/194 (67) and seemingly having little bother with the bowling. Unless England can run through them with the 2nd new ball, the Draw is long long long Odds on .

98 overs due in the day, maybe bat 10 going the slap and then have 85 overs to bowl them out.

Poms are historically conservative, I think they will try and get a 300 run lead

Root and in particular stokes are a little different so I reckon they just bat 10 overs and see what happens. 85 overs is still plenty to get this Windies team out.

Lead of 272, looks like a 300 lead is what England are going for.
