AFL 2020 Season

Talk on the national game

The AFL are happy to tell everyone there media outlet is independent when they are writing about clubs targeting free agents or potential trades or when they are tearing into players and teams.

Seems like they are only independent to point where Mitch should have alerted the AFL first to covid break so they could properly cover it up.

Mitch Cleary is employed directly by the AFL I believe so you would think his obligations to the AFL should override any obligations he has a journalist.
Bizarre decision either way

Had it been a story about Adelaide then he would have received a pay rise and a journalism award

so his obligation to the AFL is to keep it a secret and not repost what she did?

It was a public Insta story, Im not sure how the AFL were going to keep that silent.

Damien Barrett seems to go hard at the AFL and gets away with it, strange times.

Yeah but he doesn't get paid directly by the league.

Why would any journalist want to work for AFL Media now going forward???

Damian Barrett is AFL Media's chief correspondent and an award-winning journalist widely acknowledged as being the best newsbreaker in the AFL.

Not really a journalist then, is he?

I too am surprised that anybody is surprised that the AFL is an authoritarian dictatorship.

The AFL is a bloke-dominated industry that men join at the age of 18 without much of an education, has a poor track record on free speech and those who don't conform, and is afflicted by some pretty stark cultural issues. I mean we know that professional footballers tend to be neanderthals who are not only disinterested in thinking for themselves, but openly hostile to the idea of others doing so.

The irony is that the public backlash has created a hundred times the negative publicity for the AFL that the (public and already mentioned on radio) tweet would've if the AFL had just let it go.

Bring back the 3rd man up and stop asking the players who is nominating for the ruck, just throw the damn ball up as quick as you can. Will limit the teams time to setup and 3rd man up will allow the team who wants to attack to try and open it up.

Absolute no brainers that should never have come into the game in the first place.

Two things that annoyed me last night:

1. That a player is given literally forever to get rid of the ball, a team mate can help by taking the ball out his arms or if in trouble - just place the ball on the ground.. no wonder it looks like rugby.

2. Commentators constantly repeating themselves - take Mayes for example and his bump.. if I had a beer for everytime they referenced the bump and then a shot for everytime someone like Dunstall said they need to penalise the action not the damage, I wouldn't have made it to work today.

Point 1 definitely. If you hand it to the bloke its a throw. I know the one you're referring to.

Collingwood had 2 blokes hanging on to the footy making no attempt while the freo bloke just stood there...ball up?

Regards congestion.... Line through the guts....must have 6 behind it at all times.

His drop off has been pretty drastic since moving from Carlton.
I wonder why?
