Round 8 South Adelaide v WWT Saturday 1405

Postby PanthersFan » Thu Aug 13, 2020 1:11 pm

The Panthers take on the best team in the SANFL and have a hard task ahead of them after losing Tom Highmore to injury last week. Woodville West Torrens boast class and skill all over the ground and are a very well balanced team. All of South's big guns will need to fire to keep them in touch with the top 4 after close losses to North and Norwood on the road. I think returning home will help and the Panthers will set themselves to attack this game hard.

South Adelaide by 3 points (says my heart).

I am assuming Thompson is not going to play if he is named on the bench. I doubt they will risk him given we've been going well without him so they will give him the time he needs to recover if he is 50-50.

But the side as named is probably the strongest side they have had in the past five years.

South now forced to explore its depth with 17 players on the injury list ,including 4 from last week.
Playing a very good brand of footy though, and desperately unlucky against Norwood.
I expect South to win, but it wont be easy.
South by 12 pts.

We’ve even had to ask 3 players from the SFL to fill in for the reserves! That game won’t be pretty.

REALLY looking forward to this one, going with some fellow Panthers Fans and some Eagles mates too so it’s always a fun day for us. Cailotto named at centre half back and is a good match up for Hayes (hopefully) so this will be good to watch. Also looking forward to seeing what newcomer Paul Hunter can do in the ruck. Go Panthers!

SA seem to have had most of the possession so happy with the win. Paul Hunter BOG with 24 disposals and surely 3 Magarey votes. Our Hayes boys held very quiet . James Tsitas showing a bit of quality and grunt for the Eagles.

Tsitas is a great get and presumably will only get better.

Rowe very good. Used more in the midfield, although still kicked 4 goals. Perhaps a precursor to how he’ll be used with the addition of Lowson to the side. He has all the tools to be a gun midfielder. Foote again played well and Hall ran all day. The defence again held water tight, under plenty of pressure.

South won just about all the stats except tackles. Eagles better skills for the most part.

Eagles have now beaten all teams and on paper at least, will only get stronger. The captain and vice captain returning from injury to play Reserves today and VFL star Lowson spending his last weekend in quarantine. Redden and Poole also to fit back in.

We will need him - got absolutely smashed in the ruck without him.

Very happy with this win. Not sure whether the last couple of games we have been a bit off or that the opposing teams have been studying us and making it hard to play our running style but very pleasing we've been able to adapt to a different style and still get the points.

Tsitas was our biggest possession winner today and I was a bit surprised at that because i didn't really notice him during the match. But he does seem to be more of an 'in and under' type of player who goes and gets the ball and shoots our a sneaky handpass rather than someone who is run and carry. He will probably be competing with Poole for that particular spot.

In no particular order my best would be Von Bertouch, Firns, Hall, Rowe and Tsitas.

Well that was frustrating. Perfect day for footy, at home, and South kick 6.15 to 11.6. Inexcusable to kick that badly especially at home. Bad kicking is bad football and this has hurt the Panthers for a long time now. It needs to be fixed. On a positive note, Danny Juckers played his first game today and was named 5th best for South by the coaches which I thought he deserved. Also new recruit Paul Hunter was excellent in the ruck and took some big marks around the ground. Was given BOG for South which again I totally agree with, hopefully our midfield can use him to our advantage and get good first use of the ball. Sam Overall was good up forward and I hope he keeps this form going.

This loss really hurts and puts us in danger of dropping out of the 4, must win next week at the Bay.

Disappointing day at Noarlunga.

Our goal kicking was atrocious and unacceptable on a perfect day for footy.

Hunter BOG in ruck for his first game with the club. Others like Tyson Brown and Summerton played well.

McGree (who has been rucking all year) unlucky to be dropped to reserves as I think he has shown promise. I think he will be back next week versus Glenelg and a few players up forward who have not delivered will be dropped.

Injuries starting to take their toll but it is no excuse for the goal kicking.

Some decision making baffling by some players today.

Top 4 finish looking shaking after every game from here........
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!
