Round 9 tips

E Bay to wrap up 3rd spot and a double chance with a 17 point win over Willunga
McLaren will thump Goolwa / PE in search of % to snatch the Minor Premiership of the Creek . McLaren by 91 points
Creeks need to beat Compass comfortably to hang onto top spot. Compass need to upset the Creeks and hope Bays go down to Willunga to grab 3rd spot back. Tipping the Hawks who have a couple class inclusions back from injury to win by 36 points but will that be enough to hang onto top spot?
Myp /Sellicks over Strath by 21 points and snatch 7th spot of them
Yank should get over Victor by 14 points tho Victor have the momentum having their maiden win for the season last week whilst Yank will be mulling over a half season of lost opportunity by missing the finals when some supposedly good judges had them pushing for a flag.

Well Round 9 results certainly indicated a few teams are glad it's the end of the season with 4 out of 5 matches resulting in blow out margins tho one team that received a shellacking get to front up next for finals in what will be a big challenge to regroup.

The battle for the Minor Premiership went down to the wire with McLaren slight favorites at the start of the day to overtake the Creeks on %.
McLaren had the injury depleted Goolwa/PE Magpies to rack up a % booster whilst the Creeks had the tougher task of 4th placed Mt Compass to build on their 15% advantage over McLaren and cling onto top spot. When the teamsheets were exchanged it was obvious the Creeks were a big chance against the depleted Bulldogs unit. Both McLaren and Creeks both went about racking up huge totals throughout their matches and by 3/4 time McLaren were very short priced favorites to take top spot having a % advantage of 222.5% to the Creeks 216.4% but the Creeks responded with a huge 10 goal last quarter whilst McLaren surprisingly failed to finish Glw/PE off by only adding 3 goals to see the Creeks regain top spot with both teams finishing the season with 974 points FOR whilst the Creeks crucially conceded 19 points less than McLaren.
Minor Premiers certainly dont have a great record the last decade with winning the flag with the Creeks the main reason, winning 4 of the last 9 flags from 2nd or 3rd spot but would be more than happy to launch an assault for a 3rd straight flag from Top spot given their injury concerns over the last 3 - 4 weeks and the week off could be invaluable.
The biggest result from the weekend was the Bays win over Willunga to claim the double chance and given they're the only team to have defeated McLaren this season must be rated as a genuine Premiership threat tho probably 3rd in line behind McLaren and Creeks.
Strath who have been all over the place with their results finished on a high by thrashing Myp/Sellicks who may have had their focus more on a B Grade finals campaign ?
Yankalilla surprisingly belted the improving Victor Harbor but it was too little too late to make the Finals.

A quirky stat from over the last 2 weeks was that 4th placed Mt Compass (3rd at start of Rd 8 ) conceded a total of at least 19 -13 whilst going SCORELESS themselves  They conceded 9 - 9 to nil in the last quarter against McLaren last week and then conceded 10 - 4 to L Creek Saturday before they finally hit the scoreboard in the 2nd quarter. I say at least as dont know how the 3rd quarter finished off last week?. It's hard to imagine that a 4th placed A Grade team has ever conceded more whilst going scoreless ever in any league ever ?

Yes - well the A Grade and Reserve Grade will be on Saturday 3 October.

The Junior Colts and Senior Colts are being played at Strath on Sunday 4 October in an effort to spread the crowd out and make it easier to comply with the COVID safe requirements.

Any tips for the medal tomorrow night?

I think Hoban will take it out. Very dominant ruckman who always catches eyes of umps.

Others who i think might do well might include Ellis (mc) Martin (s) liddle or gotch (y) and sellar (lc) but to be honest other than Hoban im not sure who is going to poll well!

Baldock for EBay has had an outstanding year, will be interesting to see how he polls in the eyes of the umps.

My mail is that the juniors may have been moved to Strath because someone though it was wise given that the Creek may still be in party mode come Sunday if they are successful.

Hard to be critical of the split of the Senior and Colts finals and playing them over 2 days at different venues, tho the biggest frustration i heard was apparently the zero lack of consultation between the league and the Creek footy club in coming to the decision.

Congratulations to Brett "Muff" Ellis from McLaren on receiving the Mail Medal. Certainly a very popular and deserving recipient.
7 BOGs and a 3rd best from 9 games. Popular among the umps as well

2nd Semi Final
Looks like it could be a wet one with scoring at a premium.
Creeks favorite in most peoples eyes but they haven't had a ideal lead up to finals with injuries preventing them from fielding a settled line up.
Got hammered by McLaren in Rd 7 when missing a half dozen players and then obliterated a very undermanned Compass side in Rd 9.
Have 3 ins returning from injury that haven't played for an extended period which have to be some sort of concern.
E Bay have had a consistent season with their 2 losses to the Creeks in Rd 1 by 4 goals and then to Yankalilla by 2 points with a Draw with Mt Compass all in the 1st 5 rounds but since then have been undefeated which have included 2 impressive wins over the highly fancied McLaren

Tip - Creeks by 10 points

1st Semi Final
weather looks a bit kinder on Sunday at Yank where Willunga should still have fond memories of their high scoring shootout win over Compass in last seasons Prelim.
Mclaren without a flag since 2003 have certainly looked the goods in the minor round this season and looked to be a great chance of breaking the 17 year drought this year up until last week and will be gutted if they go out in straight sets.
Willunga have spluttered through the minor rounds dealing with injuries to do enough to make the finals and win the Elim narrowly over the Bulldogs.
If McLaren can regroup from last weeks disappointment and play close to their best they should be too good for the Demons

Tip - McLaren by 20 points

Enjoyed the arvo at Willunga yesterday, couple of good games, thought the Bays were the better team for most the day, but Creeks experience got them.

Well as per usual BOM got the weather completely wrong  and the match was played in fine conditions.
I didn't get to the game but watched the replay last night.
Not sure how the game looked live but it was a very hard watch on the video. Just seemed to be a very error riddled game by both sides which can often happen with the pressure of finals. I heard there were a lot of 50m penalties handed out which made me skeptical of the umpires but having seen the replay they were pretty much all there and makes one wonder just what some players are thinking at times?
Bays would be pretty gutted i'd imagine, almost having the game in their keeping several times but credit to the Creeks for hanging in there and whilst not playing their best footy managed to have their nose in front at the right time to have a crack at a threepeat on their home ground in 2 weeks.
