As an outsider, I’m disappointed in the club if this is true. Nathan has a tough job this year. He lost a heap of first pick players last year and had to deal with the effects of Covid. With the youthful team we had, I always thought we’d have an inconsistent season. He deserved 2021 to put together a campaign on which to be fairly assessed.

Sturt has parted ways with senior coach Nathan Grima.

And Central District is understood to have sensationally sacked coach Jeff Andrews with two years left on his contract, replacing him with favourite son Paul Thomas.

The Double Blues have opted not to renew Grima’s contract after two years in charge, despite the former North Melbourne and Essendon player making an impassioned plea to keep the job.

Sturt president Jason Kilic said it had been a difficult decision not to extend Grima’s contract.

“This year (2020), for obvious reasons, has been tough on everyone,’’ he said.

Our results have been disappointing, finishing sixth on the ladder.

“However, 16 players made their league debut in 2020 and we believe along with quality

recruiting this will set up the club to play finals football next season.

“We wish Nathan and his family all the very best and thank him for his service to Sturt

Football Club.”

Grima, who took Sturt to fifth in his first season in charge last year. said he regrettably accepted the decision.

“It has been a difficult season and we did not get the results we wanted,’’ he said.

“I believe I have grown in my role as senior coach and look forward to the next

opportunity in football.

“I leave having made some great relationships, especially with the players.’’

What? Other clubs have a 'keys in the bowl' policy as well? ;)

A question for those closer to Sturt - what was the expectation for this year? I can't recall much in the way of recruiting, as an outsider.

The president said: "Our results have been disappointing, finishing sixth on the ladder. However, 16 players made their league debut in 2020 and we believe along with quality recruiting this will set up the club to play finals football next season."

Good luck doing any quality recruiting if the salary cap is slashed, as mooted. New coach could be on a hiding to nothing, and hopefully for their own sake Sturt don't resurrect the revolving coach's door that spun faster than the Gravitron from 1988 to 1995.

Thanks for showing your concern.

A 2 year contract and not renewed . Not sure what else can be said ? I would think it's pretty obvious Sturt didn't think he was up to it.

Good point about recruiting Magellan ! If it is slashed it will be difficult for clubs to recruit given the commitment the SANFL players put in.

Don't want to hear Kris Grant or any Centrals supporter crying how poor they are, or how we need donations and council/government support when you can pay a coach out in these tough times with two years left. Absolutely disgraceful by the club, just to get a past club champion in who still has proven nothing as a coach!

It beggars belief in the financial situation the sanfl and its clubs are in.
Crazy decision by Centrals.

At least Grima was out of contract.

Umm... no it wasn't me re : South financially.

You seem a bit touchy about your ex-coach Brett (???) but I too be fair, I don't think this is the forum to discuss potential reasons for the departure.
