As a supporter of a club that (sadly) doesn’t play anywhere near as direct, it was just so impressive to watch. Congrats to the Eagles, the reason why you were top all season was emphatically on display. Commiserations to North, doubt you’ll be far away next season so redemption may only take 12 months.

Was saying to a mate last night haven't seen a quarter like that since the '94 GF, Port kicked 9 goals in the last quarter, 5 of those to Hodges.

Ha, a mate asked me yesterday If that was the most dominant GF quarter I’d seen .. Said it’s certainly the most dominant since Ports last Q in 94

It's got to be right up there. I reckon West scored 10 goals in the second term in the 1983 GF (which I believe is the record for goals in a GF quarter), although Sturt scored a few at the other end (with Flash Graham kicking 4 of them IIRC).

Encouraged his players to take the game on, knowing they were the best team, and they showed it in the end. Felt for Comma being kept back as Emergency and missing both Premierships, that was a very tough call.

Funny story, Stephen Rowe throwing up in toilets just before game with nerves, hope James was not that nervous, wonder if he was like that when he played (like James Allen, used to throw up before every game, and on the field as well). Can’t wait for him to tell that story on radio tomorrow :D

Very satisfying for many reasons. When North got that first soccer goal and then followed up with 2 more I really thought it was a case of here we go again. In a sign that the club has become more pro active and positive under Sheedy, the second quarter response was something we haven't seen in a GF from the Eagles since the third quarter against CD in 2006. The third quarter showed a lot of maturity to prevent any fightback and seal the game.
A whole team effort. Players I had doubts about in a big game such as Goofy, Poole and Firns did their jobs admirably and Thommo played his best game for the year. Had a good chat with James Tsitas at the after party and he said that he loved the SANFL and that the VFL has nothing like the celebrations back at the club afterwards. God, I hope he stays!
Well done Eags, commiserations to North.

Funny how in recent years bar last year the winner has come from the Prelim Final.
In 2015 the Eagles where easily the best side, but I always worried about WA, We could not beat them easily during H/A matches and then we went into GF with injuries.
In 2016 with a good season I was very confident as a supporter. We beat Sturt easily during the year.We comfortably beat Sturt in the second semi and that year SA was second best side but Sturt easily beat us in a GF that I thought we just had to show up to. Our unbeaten reserves got their pants pulled down that year as well.

I think what I've learned from the last ten years is not to place any weight on non-knockout finals.

In 2011, Norwood flogged WWT in the QF and anyone would've thought they were going on to win the flag. Two weeks later, after a non-performance in the PF, they're eliminated, and the Eagles go on to win the premiership.

In 2015 and 2016, the Eagles win thru via the 2SF and lose both grand finals, again performing well below expectations.

Then this year, one side plays one of their best games of the year in the 2SF, the other their worst, before that's flipped around totally two weeks later.

I'm sure there are many more examples, for instance Richmond the other night. My conclusion is that non-knockout finals occur in a different universe to reality and performances in them should be somewhat disregarded (as many on here rightly did) heading into the important one.

It was a very ordinary game of footy IMO. Is that OK ? Why make a comment about Sturt ? The Sturt V Port GF was also a very ordinary game to watch but but as it was a point victory , everyone said it was a great game. Get over yourself . Its an opinion mate. You should try and get your own as so should a couple others.

Not to upset Eagles fans that aren't self aware but would the Eagles have the least amount of supporters in the league? They've been really successful for a really long time now, hardly ever miss the finals but for some reason the support just isn't there. Seemed like plenty of North supporters turned up. Well done to the Eagles though, best team all year, some real quality in that side and seem to have plenty of depth to cover players that might get drafted in the off season.

Jones to Port
Rowe to Carlton (according to Soda)
Wehr to GWS (according to S.Rowe)

Mansell, Foote, McNeill and Jack Hayes would quite easily be AFL standard too.

From memory, North got hit hard with the draft after the 2018 premiership?

It is the nature of the competition that teams lists can change significantly from year to year. The Eagles got the right mix this year and made the most of it!

Life is good with footy results on the weekend.
SANFL season 2020 was the purest and most important to be contested for a very, very, long time.
No AFL reserves influence, players not being paid, just playing on passion and heart.
Eagles gave a 3 goal head start to the Adelaide oval, finals, specialists, with a massive crowd advantage and a week off to rest.
Turns out the Eagles turned on the most potent, high scoring quarter of footy in any game this season, let alone a final, let alone a grand final.
So many good players for the Eagles. Some Highlights……….
Foote – simply brilliant, and deadly accurate. 4 goals from a midfielder in a GF.
Toumpas – highest disposal game and presented well with a big improvement on 2 weeks ago.
Angus – best finals game saved for the big stage – 2 goals in 2 minutes, checkside beauty right in front of us.
Redds, playing under duress, set up so many clearances with his centre square taps, especially in 2nd quarter.
Luke Thompson – cool and calm, repelled many attacks
McNeil – silky smooth pace and nice goal during the avalanche.
Rowe – despite a tight defender still snagged 2.
Lowson telling his opponent to look at the scoreboard after slotting a tight angle goal
Some lowlights
Cocky cocks fans – check out @shitadelaide for a quality North fan now going viral. Not social media viral either. Queens head efforts from north fans who left early.
North number 9 – serial sniper seemed to concuss himself with an attempt at hurting an opponent with his head.

Number 1 theme for north continuing in a bad, bad way.
1 (One) Goal Grand Final – 89
1 – guernsey number of Wigg (clearly best for north…..but)
1 – total of Jack Oatey medal votes, for the whole North Adelaide team, earned by Harrison, (Eagles Team collectively awarded 47 votes from the 8 judges)
“Double 1” numbered player – Allmond, diving and getting an absolute bath – trademark pathetic GF effort from him
1 – number of clubs Schwarz played for before becoming a quitter and refusing to play reserves, and having Daddy CEO pressure the coach to play league for the Eagles. (actually he would have fitted right in to your reserves losing team)
1 gutless elbow drop from North number four early on, missing its mark

And I guess there was plenty of Karma for the cheating and gloating in 2018.
Eagles reserves defeating North
Eagles League team conceding a 3 goal headstart, then it must have then felt like the Eagles had 22 players on the field in that devastating, match winning, premiership deciding, second quarter of Gold, green and Blue.
There is a good youtube highlights package of this. Sound was not working today with North’s QC’s apparently injuncting any sound of the bawling of the north fans during the onslaught.

Jones i think is already on Ports list.
He hails from Bute on the Yorke Peninsula and is part of Port Adelaide’s NGA owing to his Indigenous heritage and regional upbringing.
S Rowe wears a permanent napkin i believe, or should.

Yes, Jones is eligible for Port via the NGA.
Can see him being bid on in the top 10 and Port would happily match

I understand your euphoria at our win but you could have been a little humble with our win. Classless post. Most of the posters on here, banter aside have been complimentary of the Eagles all year. The North supporters have heaped praise on the WWTFC in the way we played the GF as have poster from rival clubs .

Actually, karma is a philosophical concept in Buddhism associated with causality and rebirth, often misused by boofheads when they're referring to fatuous notions of 'payback'.

Anyway, I would've thought the best payback is to enjoy the win.
