Surely everyone is bored of these flat, lifeless pitches.

Webster reminds me of the talented and selfish junior captain who decides to open the bowling.. then bowl some spin after that.. then come back on and bowl meds to clean up the tail.

Stumps day four, both SA and NSW hang on for draws.

SA second innings 5/347
Head 171* (Had some luck but real important he stood up today to save the match for SA and tune up for his future international duties this summer)
Scott 40*
Bird 2/53

NSW second innings 2/107
Larkin 33*

So test incumbents Labuschagne, Head and Paine all with a century early in the Shield season with Neser, Agar and our one to watch Green all with one too are all possibilities to be in the test squad.

That dig must have pushed him over 40 as he was below 40 after last season still.
He’s improving which is great but I doubt he’ll play many more state games.

I see the women's Strikers team had a good win first up

Darcie Brown looks like she bowls quite quick. Her first wicket was a beauty, swung in late and cleaned up a left hander

She was very swift growing up, too quick for most of her keepers, even in the SA junior side, anything down leg was going straight to the boundary.

Brilliant to see her do well in her debut, there was talk a few times of her making her debut last season but didn't eventuate.

You wouldn't meet a nicer family.

Bit late on this, but I've been critical of Head for getting out when set, and he deserves plenty of praise here.

Worrall back in the squad for Friday which is good (vs Vics @ Glenelg)

Weatherald out. Made himself unavailable. The release says he needs some time away from cricket to focus on his wellbeing

No surprise re Jake. Remember posting back in February this year he was not enjoying his cricket and was going to give it away. Rashid Khan had been in his ear saying he could make a great living playing in all the 20/20 comps around the world, something Jake actually enjoys and is good at. COVID probably affected these plans.

Would think McInerney gets first shot at opening, and Worrall replaces Richo.

Would be a huge loss if Whetherald did leave the Redbacks, but all that is important right now is that he looks after himself and does what he needs to do to get himself right. Sport is not important in times like these

Glad Jake has made the decision that is in the best interests for himself. Cricket is not important for him at the moment.

What I do find interesting is in recent times we have seen a few cricketers take a break from the game. What is apparent is that it's not a players form that dictates their mental health. Both Pulcovksi and Weatherald have walked away only weeks after hitting tons in the shield.

It seems pretty clear a cricketers mental health and form don't necessarily go hand in hand.

Without having any knowledge of the situation at all I'd imagine he'd have a fair bit of strain on him trying to remain loyal to the Redbacks along with trying to put his name up there for a baggy green vs touring the world and playing the T20 circuit. He's undoubtably been more successful in the shorter format and would have some decent currency.

Would you take an IPL contract over playing Test cricket these days if you are only ever going to be a fringe player at Test level?
