Fair for who?
They don’t care about premierships so I don’t think it matters.

I'm not 100% sure they'll be in the comp.

If squads go 42 + 2 rookies

Any injuries plus taking emergencies interstate they may not field a full development squad team

They will probably be allowed to raid our lists to make their numbers up.

I feel that the 42+2 will still be enough to field a reserves team, with a few more top-ups who will of course have to be paid. Not ideal in the current environment, particularly for the Power.

I think this may be partly why the SANFL are reportedly reducing the salary cap (i.e. the one that applies to the legitimate clubs).

I.e. the Ravens/Power reserves can get away with paying top-ups less if the opposition are on less (might lead to even more league standard players heading for the country/amateurs).

It would not suprise me in the least if the AFL clubs are pressuring the SANFL to reduce the salary cap for the dinkum teams.

I wouldn’t be joking about this

Koch “If there are smaller (AFL) list sizes that would not stop us being the Magpies, but the SANFL have got to come to the party and make it a level playing field (ability to recruit) on the same basis as the other clubs.
They have to be flexible with that and love us or hate us, I think South Australian football is the better for having a Magpies in the SANFL and that history.'

So they want to spend more to be more competitive if lists are cut.

Contradicting the reason for list cuts

It was a more level playing field prior to the AFL reserves, even if the Magpies were unsuccessful this Century. Koch using the "Magpies spin", anyone with a brain knows they're Magpies by name only, the team is an AFL reserves side. The SANFL is worse off having a Power and Crows reserve team in it. Having a true Magpie team in the SANFL on a level playing field is a different argument.
"But the SANFL have got to come to the party and make it a level playing field (ability to recruit) on the same basis as the other clubs" , what a disgraceful, ignorant statement on so many levels.

Koch has been at different times insulting about the SANFL since day 1. A lot of it is for the consumption of his domestic audience so bashing the SANFL plays well to an element of their supporter base. But it's also a way to ease the discontent from a group of supporters who are increasingly wondering where their modern day Premierships have gone that their 'creed' demands.
In the same way he is very adept at presenting Port as the minnow suburban club fighting the good fight against a Victorian centric AFL and therefore, once again, their threadbare national trophy cabinet can be attributed in part to a dodgy governing body.

100%, he was happy to get rid of the Magpies when they weren't successful, and for the Prince of Wales pokies.

FIVEaa’s Stephen Rowe is calling for the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide to be left out of the SANFL 2021 season in what he says will be “another COVID affected year”.
Rowey told FIVEaa Breakfast’s David & Will on Wednesday:

“The SANFL have all but halved their salary cap to $210,000 from $400,000 due to COVID… SANFL earnings are down 45%, AFL grants have been cut by 30%. Clubs and the SANFL simply can’t afford it… the ramifications on this I reckon are going to be far reaching. What players are they going to lose… and what will the standard be? I’m really worried… you’ve got to be able to keep and retain players and you’ve got to remunerate them.

“Here’s the thing: I wouldn’t have the Crows and Port in the SANFL next year. Port and Crows players should go back to a SANFL club like they used to. The top up players they’ll be able to attract and the fact they’ve got AFL standard players fulltime… they’ll flog the SANFL teams. Crows and Port will be on top by the length of the straight.

“And here’s the other thing: I’ve heard the Crows are refusing to pay the $400,000 license fee to join the SANFL and in some respects fair enough. Port don’t pay one because they’ve given up their game development grant. So what do they add to the competition? If they don’t pay, what do they add?
They certainly don’t add fairness, so you know what, go back to your SANFL clubs… for one year it’s the better of the two evils.”
