Negative defensive footy cure?

Postby gazzamagoo » Thu Oct 29, 2020 9:14 am

I had an epipheny this morning, may be a way to promote higher scoring & more exciting footy.
Every goal per team over 3 goals per quarter is awarded 9 points,
therefore if a team kicks 6 goals in a quarter it equals 45 points instead of 36 points.
Thoughts?

I actually the love the idea of bonus points for goals scored especially at SANFL level where all games are played outdoor.

I would be keeping it simple just like the super rugby comp, at the end of the game 10 goals equals 1 extra point and 15 equals two extra points, or what ever goal total you desire I just used them for arguments sake.

Not a fan of this sort of thing. Disadvantages teams who end up getting more wet weather games than others.

Super Netball (completely different sport, I know) had a two-point goal available for the last five mins of each quarter or something. Made no sense to me why the first goal of the quarter should be worth less than one that comes with four minutes to go.

I know we don't want the game to be like soccer, but there is a bit to take out of the fact that soccer changes its rules less than almost other sport going around.

Limit the number of people who can be in the 50 at each time.. or make a full forward required to stay full forward - like netball the GS and GK cant leave the 1st third.. have the FF and FB cant leave the 50.

I wanna see power forwards kicking bags again.

I like this idea.
Bit hard to score when your FF pushes up to the flank or even the wings.

I like the concept but think in practicality it would be a nightmare as a spectator.

Imagine watching your full forward kick a great snap goal, you start celebrating only to see the middle umpire running into the forward line to call a free kick against, something that you would not have picked up watching,

Even worse with the use of technology we would see very goal reviewed for how many players were in the forward line.

The best cure for crap football game plans is they dont play finals or win premierships
Norwood in 2020 is a good example
Their 3 best kick getters were on their half back line - kicking to each other until they muffed it and turned it over

You'll need 15 umpires to police it.

Just think - it's bad enough now when a whistle blows and no one knows what's going on. It'd be chaos.

We dont need rule changes, just a coach ballsy enough to leave a player or 2 at home when the ball is up the other end.

We could just weaken the bottom 4 sides so the top 4 teams score more heavily. Problem solved. I sure the coaches at the lower 4 teams would be happy with this.

What a stupid argument. The game is fine. I want to see even contests (with my side winning btw). A lot of the recent AFL rule changes have been made on gut feeling and have changed the fabric of the game.

If goals were worth 12 points and behinds 2 points, would that help?
