How were the crows a very ordinary team?? They were the standout team that year and a clear favourite heading into that GF. People are starting to forget that a little now that the tigs have gone on to win a couple more.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Maybe we could at least have even time frames in the poll?

The Hawks also lost a prelim in '11 and lost a GF in '12, and lost a semi in '16... Brissy lost a GF in 04, and a semi in 2000.

The Brissy Lions player for player were the best side IMO, but were able to assemble with the extra $ allowed.

I think he meant 3 in a row against quality opposition.

Those Collingwood sides weren’t quality imo. Port Adelaide looked like World beaters in 02,03 but were shithouse come finals.

How can you say that. We nearly beat the bastards.
Shit sides don't play in gf's. They may be cooked when they get there but that collingwood team was pretty bloody good.

Whilst I agree with the premise that Port were the best side of 2003 (given how dominant we were during the minor round, it still irks me to this day that/how we blew that season), Collingwood did knock Brisbane off in the Qualifying final that season, and were favourites heading into the GF.

Despite Port finishing minor premier, Brisbane were the best side in 2002 for mine. Come Grand Final day, I believe that the conditions allowed Collingwood to get as close as they did. They were a side that overachieved that season, and very nearly took the opportunity.

If you were the best side then you would've at least made the gf.
Some are saying you were the best side this year, but clearly you weren't.

It's either the Hawks or Brisbane. The other two haven done a 3 peat... So they shouldn't be in this discussion

Port of 2003 vs. Port of 2020 share one thing - in both seasons, we should have at least made the GF.

Choking in finals doesn't detract from dominant minor round performances, for which 2003 definitely was for us. 11 consecutive weeks on top, winning 17 from our last 19 games. Not withstanding the fact that in 2020, being on top from go to whoa looks more dominant on face value, there were many questions raised of 2020 PA, and the pundits/media analysts who had Brisbane, Geelong, Richmond and sometimes West Coast ahead of us for a majority of the season attest to that.

Anyway, I am detracting from the original point that I was trying to make. In 2003, once Port blew the QF against Sydney, Collingwood assumed premiership favouritism until being overrun on the last day. They were far from ordinary in 2003.

I'm a Port supporter and I didn't think they were, infact most of the Power supporters I know thought the same, I think it was more of the Crow supporters suggesting that as it made it look more like a choke.

We had a favourable draw, Richmond, Geelong, St. Kilda, Bulldogs and West Coast would've all won more games than they did with a more balanced fixture.

Did you overachieve, or did you reach where you should have, just against an unexpected opponent?

Should've won 02, outclassed in 03.

Brisbane for mine.
Had to travel to Melbourne so handicapped by that.
Hawthorns 3, while bloody brilliant, they had the home ground advantage.
If Richmond do a 3 peat they might go just above hawthorn in the pecking order but Brisbane way out in front.

Geelong shat the bed in 2008 but their record over a 200 game period is the best in VFL/AFL history and we didn't need to merge or have a larger salary cap to do it. The best team I have seen though remains Hawthorn 1983-91. Just look at the list of champion players they had through that period. Amazing. Tough and bloody good to boot.
