I still think Trump will have the last laugh.
I wouldn’t rule him out challenging for 2024 and like Tony Abbott I reckon he is a far more effective opposition leader than actual leader. He can sit back and set his attack dogs on Biden whilst the Republican senate just blocks or slows down any changes they want to make and then in 2 years time he can hit campaign mode again. Biden is effectively a lame duck for the next 2 years

Must say what I've found most interesting is clicking on the state maps on google and seeing just how many of those (i'm guessing districts?) are red.

Clearly a huge divide between Metro and rural in the US. Most of the Red areas are rural whilst the Blue garnishes most of its support from the big cities.

Harris will be in the hot seat in two years time and Trump's ego won't allow him to risk losing again, he'll find some other play thing to stroke his ego. There's no way in hell he runs as the opposition.

Probably not, I wouldn’t rule it out just yet.
Would be best for everyone if he just left completely.
I think whatever happens I’d be surprised if the Dems get two terms.

Not just hillbillies though to be fair. Some big regional areas of US that are sensible non extremists types and feel that despite Trump being a fool his party does far more for rural communities than the Dems. Trump cleaned up on the Latino vote in Florida aswell.

Except in the US there's not really an opposition leader - the closest thing is whoever wins the presidential primary of the party not in power, and that's more than a couple of years into the term. If Trump loses, he's out. The Congress continues to function, with leaders appointed to both House and Senate, but Trump won't be leading the Republican charge from within. From outside? That's another question.

However, it's true that without majorities in both houses Biden's legislative and policy agenda would become stone-walled.

Biden is a China hater aswell so nothing will change in that regard. Biden is even more outspoken on President Xi

Xi wouldn't sign the Biden joint venture contract?

I like living in a country where elections are short and boring and very little changes no matter who wins.

The highlight of any election in Australia is seeing Antony Green again.

I watched the ABC yesterday because he's on it and hasn't got any bias. Some of the other twats just cant help themselves.

Planet America last night was very good as usual. John Barron and Chas Licciardello really do work well together. It's very good for the US political naïve.

The answer is, they don't - although same-day registration is permitted in a number of states so there can be a surge in registered voters on polling day.

It is a shambles - forget states, different counties within states have different rules.

Nevertheless, this is something we've always known.

You'd like to hope they will take some lessons from this year (granted that COVID-19 made it a bit harder). Getting the Australian Electoral Commission to run the whole thing would also work well!
