This was quite different to this year though as the final result was a very tight 537 votes. Donald Trump is taking election results to court where he is trailing by over 40,000 votes. It is also the only time that a candidate has claimed that the whole election is rigged (except for the seats that the Republicans won, of course) and has taken out court action in multiple jurisdictions.

So the states he won rigged too?

Nothing really happens until January anyway so I wouldn't say they are standing in the way YET.

He's obstructing the hand-over that is necessary for a smooth transition of power in January.

What is worse in my eyes is that he is trying to de-legitimise democracy. There will be many in the US who now will never accept the result of an election. This is exactly what Putin wanted when he 'installed' The Donald.

Please, the US election system has been questioned long before 2020.
Don't forget the left were up in arms in 2016 over "Russian interference" following Don's win in 2016.
And didn't George Dubs get in 5 weeks after the election following a court ruling over Florida?

I'm sure there are plenty of examples on both sides going back over the years.[/quote]

I think comparing what Trump is doing now to 2000 or 2016 or any other occasion in recent decades is false equivalence.

As BDP noted, in 2000 the Democrats had some SPECIFIC allegations in relation to the one state that would decide the election, and presented evidence for it, and the result was in the hundreds.

In this case, Trump has not put up evidence of any SPECIFIC incidents, let alone evidence of tens of thousands (cf. hundreds) of illegitimate ballots, let alone in enough states to make a difference.

And nor did Gore spit the dummy and basically make shit up like the current president.

Making specific, balanced criticism of certain ways in which the election was conducted (which should be welcomed at each election - this is how things improve) is totally different to claiming the other side have stolen the election.

Also, foreign interference in elections is a significant issue and definitely something to be up in arms about.

Question for all of you saying there is no evidence, is the evidence normally broadcast all over the world in this situation?
Would the allegations not be made and then an investigation would ensue to either prove or dismiss the allegations.

It is practice in Georgia to recount votes when the number of votes of the 'winner' is less than 0.5% more than the 'loser'. This would have happened even if Trump had received the most votes and Biden was within 0.5%. It is nothing new, it is standard procedure... and is certainly not a 'win' for Trump.

The 'evidence' needs to be outlined in the petition to the court. There is absolutely no actual evidence of any fraud or wrongdoing in any of the petitions Trump's lawyers have submitted to the courts.

There are a number of things that are really concerning about Trump's allegations:

1. He announced before the actual election that this would be his strategy. He made statements that, as his voters would be voting in-person whilst Democrats were voting by mail-in ballot, he would be ahead on the night of the counting as in-person votes would be counted first... and he would claim victory, and then claim the only valid votes were those counted on election night - all others were invalid. This was always the plan... no matter how many votes he lost the election by.

2. The election was not even close. In terms of popular vote, the percentage of votes Biden received were the second highest for any challenger over the past 100 years. In terms of the electoral college, they were the fourth highest in the same time period.

3. By taking the Michigan result to court, he is demonstrating that this has nothing to do with votes cast; it is just an attempt for him to form a dictatorship. Biden won Michigan by over 150 000 votes - how can anyone possibly think that one state could have that many fraudulent votes??

Another really sad thing about Trump's tactics is that he had absolutely no concern for his voters. The fact that he asked his people to vote for him in person has resulted in a massive spike in their Covid statistics - over 200 000 cases yesterday, largely due to in-person voting.

Cheers

If it were me, as the President, making allegations of voting fraud I would offer some of the evidence to refute the claims that I'm just a sore loser sooner rather than later.

Saying pizza boxes were put on windows, binoculars were used by on lookers, mail was found in rivers etc is all well and good, but show something to support those claims and I'd imagine every freedom loving American who supports a proper democratic election process would be right behind the investigation.

A Pennsylvania postal worker whose claims have been cited by top Republicans as potential evidence of widespread voting irregularities admitted to U.S. Postal Service investigators that he fabricated the allegations, according to three officials briefed on the investigation and a statement from a House congressional committee.
